Today whilst walking passed the TV (Samsung Plasma) I heard a loud click, the same noise as when I turn it on using the remote ... doesn't turn on though.

Mentioned this to my wife who said that it often happens during the day, not sure why this is the first time I have noticed it happening ... blind and deaf probably sealed

Whilst typing this, I heard it again, and thinking someone had turned it on, took a look and nothing!

Are there heat/temperature sensors that cut out standby power, or ghosts in the machine?

PS  No off/on timers are set.

My Phillips 32 inch does same. Makes the noise like it's been turned on or off.
Seems to do it once a day, I don't know why.

My TV doesn't have digital tuner so there's no guide updates etc to look for.

It's just the GCSB taking photos.  Just act normal.   ;-)

Panasonic plasmas do the same thing. Couldnt sleep one night and got up. Heard the TV turn itself on (I thought).

Just made that clack-clack sound like starting up. No picture though.

I googled and found a reason for it - sadly cant recall what it was.

Might have been a check for over the air software updates.

Dont normally hear it do it - so it doesnt do it often....
