Can anyone advise?

I am confused by the resolution required by a computer monitor to show an HDMI screen coming from my Yamaha Receiver.

This screen shows an HDMI image:

https://www.cnet.com/products/dell-ultrasharp-u2412m/review/

Resolution:

1,920x1,200 pixels

I tried another monitor screen, if memory serves, with higher res and it did not show an image.

What is the resolution required for HDMI/DVI image to display from my HT receiver?

With thanks!

You've already answered the question - the monitor accepts 1920 x 1200 maximum which is an 8:5 aspect ratio.

Your amp (or whatever source you're feeding into it) probably doesn't output that resolution as it's a native PC one, not a 4:3 or 16:9 used for video.

I want to do a second system, what resolution should I use given the chance to go higher in resolution for the receiver output?

Home theater amps have to manipulate the edid data of anything connected and add in the audio modes they support before passing it back to the source device.

When I tried a non TV sized monitor on my onkyo it replaced the ultra wide resolutions with just the TV modes so I had pillarboxing and it was hopeless. Just stick with TV's IMO.
