I guess the version of Powercinema included with the DV-T tuner cards is a stripped down version, because it seems to be missing some features - such as editing out the ads etc.
But my biggest gripe is I cant find a way to fast forward more than x2 or skip through adds as I can in vista media centre.
This is a real pain if you recorded a few hours at one and want to quickly get an hour or two into the recording (sometimes resume does not seem to work). Not to mention skipping through adds.
Windows Media player and even PowerDVD lets you move a slider bar along, but I cant see anything like this in Powercinema. Unfortunately I cant play back programs recorded in Powercinema in PowerDVD or anything else - I thought Powerdvd may have worked as it has that H264 codec but it didnt work - should it?
So in the meantime I wont be recording much TV in Powercinema because of this. Vista media centre works so will in comparison - you can ffwd at an incredible rate and just skip skip skip through the ads and it never misses a beat

not only that, but I cannot even go back through a recording. Only 2x forward, nothing to go backwards. You have to skip at the beginning and use the super-slow 2x "fast" forward to get where you want... who can design such a software? No wander is distributed free (I mean, with the tv tuner). On the other hand, it IS free, as the cd carries a cd key but it never asks for it during installation.

I hear you on this one, crap product. Slow fast forward, no skins, really basic recording options, the list is to large to write out. I guess thats what you get for free software that ain't opensource.  Although I have had heaps of issues with Media Portal too.  Some reason it never picks up the EPG with DVB-t

puggy,

after reading forums about MP in other parts of the world (europe, USA), MP is able to get the EPG from DVB-T and DVB-S streams. It is just the DVB-T stream in NZ not giving it the info it needs. I think

I do not have teletext on TV3 DVB-T, as there is none. The telext on TV1 and Tv2 seems to be something wrong with it, as the subtitle page 801 brings up the subtitle for a show running on TVNZ6 !! But the teletext on freeview DVB-S is just fine. I understand some people use the EPG from the DVB-S stream for the htpc, but that implies you will need to install a card with DVB-S tuner for this purpose.

But you can have EPG in MP, I do not have it as I am just at the beginning, but it appears there is piece of software you have to pay for, to someone here in NZ, which will update the EPG periodically, I assume from a server that guy runs.

You may give this a try, as it is free.
I cannot try it myself right now as my phone line is dead for 2 days already... But I will definetely try it as it comes with very good explanations about how to add lines and alter the settings in order to get EPG correctly (it has a 30 page manual, a developer's guide).

As I said, I did some reading on overseas forums regarding MP, as there are so many plug-ins available, some very interesting. One of them will allow me to turn the bedside lamp on and off !! Yes, it is a 240V, standard bedside lamp. Why would I do that? because is not good at all for your eyes to watch big screens in a completely dark room. And the lamp wil sit behind the tv cabinet. i already bought the relay for this.

Ooooh! I am so far from the topic now ...
