Hi Guys,

Having a mare here. Ive got my Vista Ultimate x64 box up and running with a HVR-2200. im trying to tune the Windows Media Centre to pickup the sky signal (being fed from the sky box) but i cant get it to pick up!. This is my only option, i just wanna be able to record sky, nothing fance. my TV can pickup the sky from teh RF signal but not the PC. What am i doing wrong? Please help me im going mental!

Hi there,

Ive jsut looked thru that thread and it dosent seem too relevant to my problem. i dont have two tuners, i dont need freeview setup, i just need to recieve the analog feed from my sky box in VistaMCE. I have tested the signal by tuning it with my tv, but for some reason VistaMCE wont find that signal. it find 1,2,3 etc, just cant find the signal from the RF connector on the sky box.

Are you running the latest drivers?

What are the menu options you are selecting in Windows Media Center when setting this up? What connections are you using on the card coming in from the Sky Decoder (s-video?)?

Assuming you have the correct drivers (check device manager to see if any unknown devices are appearing), and you are choosing Analogue from the Windows Media Center TV setup screen, it should scan all inputs and pick up the signal. There isn't much to it to be honest.

If you have all the drivers installed perhaps uninstall them and then manually install the Hauppauge drivers, instead of letting Windows install the WHQL drivers. Also try WinTV to see if you can get it going in there....if it works in WinTV it should work in Windows Media Center.

Please also post a list of your hardware specifications and the software you have installed on your HTPC so we can see if there are any conflicts anywhere.

EDIT: This may also be an issue with your 64bit system - do you have actual 64bit drivers for the card? 64bit seems a bit of a waste at the moment, there's no benefit to using it.

Use S-video - if you dont have a s-video sky cable they will give you one free I think.

In the past I have had to click on composite and then s-video to pick up the signal (Using an ATI 550 card).

If you use s-video there is no tuning to be done.

Hi,

I am selecting the analogue in medi centre. As for using wintv? it didnt install when i ran the disks. it successfully installed the drivers then installed power cinema. Powercinema wont scan any channels at all. it just says scanning at sits a 0%. i have just a astandard aerial cable running from the "to tv" port on the sky boc to the aerial in on the HVR-2200. there dont appear to be any conflicts in device manager. I have the latest drivers i donwloaded lastnight. As for manually installing them? how would i do that? Also my sky box dosent have a s-video on it. just the 2x scart, the cable in, the tv out (RF aerial type) and astandard RCA.

Maybe the latest drivers from www.hauppauge.co.uk would help (has to be the UK site not the US one). Drivers and latest version of WinTV as well as patches for PowerCinema are available from there (drivers/WinTV up to CD4.6b). No gaurantees but MCE wouldn't scan high enough into the UHF band for it to pick up Sky RF but when I installed WinTV (CD4.4) it found it and displayed it. I had to turn the UAC off to get it all to install properly. I left it at that because I use MediaPortal, but when Fiji comes out as an SP I may revisit it. At the moment if Vista MC were a real dog I would have cheerfully have taken it to the far field and put it out of its misery.

Right ive installed the lates 4.6b off the uk website, drivers appeared to install fine. the software went to install and said no devices found. All installed with UAC off, no wintv. Still no go with sky and VistaMC. Im going mental here!

So I assume there aren't any devices present when you look in the device manager. I suppose there are drivers for Vista64? There is a set procedure to follow when installing the drivers, it is fairly well detailed on the hauppauge website but I do remember any important step being to click on 'will install drivers later' when vista prompts you for the drivers on boot-up. Be aware each component of your card shows up as a separate device and so vista asks you multiple times. Then run the hauppauge installation software. It should load the drivers and then prompt you for the rest.
The only reason I suggest WinTV is it is a simple way to get to grips with the tuner card before moving to other (better) programs.

Ok, device manager looks like this:

1 unknown "other device"

but under

sound video and game controllers there is a haupagge WinTv-HVR-2200

The website shows no 32 or 64bit drivers, theres only one link, and it installs. I followed the instructions exactly on the uk website. Vista interups the install once to ask if its ok to install i say yes it installs. Im borderline mental, but i really do apreciate all the advice. i just hope i can get this sorted soon. i dont know why the haupagge wintv installer dosent recognise devices as devicemanager and vistaMCE can see it

Yeah, sorry - WinTV may be a bit of a false trail. My configuration hassles were with older PCI cards (HVR-3000), just thought I'd mention the driver issues because I recollect another recent thread that solved HVR-2200 problems with an update. WinTV may not be able to address PCIe cards. I'll leave the rest to the HVR-2200 experts (since it's a newish card there is going to be an increasing knowlege base).

Garh! ive even emailed the manufactureer and asked for help, their suggestions did nothing! i just wanna record sky! Lol.

Hmmm, someone told me that i cant recieve the signal from a set top box with out a vista MC compatible remote? is the true or a crock of S***.?
