We have a Sony RDRHX950B 250Gb HDD recorder.

The damn thing is extremely picky with DVD's - if they are not practically brand new it freezes while playing them and complains that the disc is unreadable. Putting the same disc into our Sony Portable player has it play fine through the supposed 'problem areas'.

Trying to clean the disc can sometimes yeild results - but it still seems overly picky.

Has anyone had experience with this player or similar sony players & this sort of pickiness?

Could it be a faulty player? (it is still under warranty)

I had the 160Gb model and it played anything I could throw at it. I would be getting it checked out under warranty.

I've got the earlier model HX910 which is now about 3 yrs old and still plays anything.
It does occasionally give a dirty disc report when I try to dub to disc but then a lot of discs (particularly the el-cheapos) are of dubious quality (even Sony).
It's obviously a faulty unit so get it replaced under warrantee.
