I have a 70” LG TV which in the last week or so has started displaying a black “zone” on the right hand side of the screen. It happens on all inputs and TV channels and on the UI, so it’s not an issue with cables or connectors. I suspect it’s one of the backlights failing. Thing is, it is quite intermittent and always goes away once turned off and back on, but will usually turn up again - sometimes a couple of minutes later, sometimes after many tens of minutes.

The warranty is up at the end of May. I’ve reported it to LG, who have referred me to a local repair agent here in Chch. They tell me the repair agent will most likely come out to see it. But with it being so intermittent I’m worried he’ll turn up and it won’t do it and I’ll be charged a “no fault found” fee, only for it to become an issue again once the warranty expires.

What would you guys do?

Have put some photos of the issue here, in case any body has any magic suggestions that might avoid needing to deal with repair agents

Take date & time stamped photos of the fault & forward to LG & keeping your copies secure. They cannot decline a warrantee repair or replacement if you have provided proof of fault prior to the warranty expiring.

Show the photo to the repairer when they arrive.
