I have a Denon 5.1 audio amp system and would like to connect a bluetooth headset to it for one person in house that needs hearing assistance. Unfortunately the Denon only has one headphone socket which when used cuts audio to all the other speakers. I have various bluetooth gadgets that I could use but no way to connect then and keep audio for everyone else.

Anyone with a solution to this. I could take one of the side speakers to feed the Bluetooth but in a 5.1 it would only give part of the sound.

Unless its multi room capable I think you'll find that with most receivers.

Does the TV have ARC loop with downmixed audio out from the speaker/stereo outputs at the same time?

If so you could do a DIY t-loop system (direct sound to hearing aid) using that as the output instead of the amp. Or take the centre channel which will lose most surround effects.

All my content comes from either a PC using HDMI to Denon or Freeview receiver once again using HDMI
It's a pity that manufacturers don't think of things like customers needing hard of hearing devices
Oh well will keep searching

What model Denon do you have? An older unit with line out could do the trick, failing that, does your TV have a headphone output?

Or do you have a Freeview STB with analogue outputs?

AVR-X520BT it's the model. Most of my watching is from my computer which I use for Streaming Netflix etc and it is connected via HDMI to the Denon and the Denon is connected HDMI to TV. I cannot see how I can get a connection to a Bluetooth device that works send audio to my headphones. Any ideas welcone

Second this.

What model is you AVR? If it has line out connection/s via RCA pair or optical this will be a viable solution.

Or perhaps your TV has audio out? you can feed from there, although of course only for material that is sent to the tv (radio or streaming music might not work).

Sounds like (no pun intended) you need to hack the headphone socket so it doesnt disable the speakers when you plug something in there.

Wonder how easy it is to just hack the headphone socket - Seem to recall that usually when you plug something into the socket, the plug just pushes a contact open or closed and that just disables the speakers. Would require tinkering with the socket if you can get at it though - probably impossible to get at.

There used to be electrical repair places that could do things like that - Pretty thin on the ground these days - Can only think of one place in Auckland off the top of my head.

You actually reminded me of a problem I had with my Denon HT unit. It worked fine until one day we switched it on and no sound came out. All the lights were on - but no sound. Did a complete power off/on. No joy. Went through the onscreen menus - nothing to be seen. Scratched my head and googled the problem. Checked the LED display and finally noticed a little symbol on the LED display and worked out it thought headphones were plugged in (but headphones had never been plugged into this unit). Turns out a few of the Denon amps have a very touchy headphone socket and after a while a little dust would build up inside the socket and the unit thought headphones had been plugged in and switched off the speakers - the cure was to get down and blow into the headphone socket.

It's a right pain. Does anyone know if its possible to pick up the sound off the computer. I feed from the PC via HDMI to Denon. Is there anyway that a second HDMI could be used to pick up the sound and feed headphones while the primary HDMI feeds the Denon.

Or could the I feed the HDMI on PC to some form of splitter box that could then feed both headphones and Denon has to be an answer somewhere

Here you go - you need this:

Looks like you would be able to have an HDMI cable coming from your PC (or whatever) into this box and another HDMI carrying on to your Denon.

You can use the headphone port on this little box for your headphones.

Not sure what 5v power supply comes with it - If it copes with 230v imput you could use an adapter power plug - but I imagine you could probably source a local one that would work ok if you had to.
