Hello Everyone/Anyone,

Im a new member and I have an issue with my HTPC running Media Centre XP.

I have a Gigabyte HTPC with SKY fed into Media Centre by analogue cables. The machine sends to 32" LCD with DVI-HDMI connection and SPDIF to home theatre unit.

I have managed to get the video signal to come through to Media Centre and when I use any other function (audio, watching TV, commands etc) sounds happen however when I record there is no audio with the video signal.

I have checked the obvious causes (volume levels, audio settings, cables) but still no joy

!

Would some kind person(s) offer some advice to point me in the right direction?

What TV tuner card are you using? Or am I misunderstanding your original post & you are using the Sky decoder for everything ie. live TV, etc. If so, what are you using for video capture?

Also, have you set up the audio for SPDIF correctly? What codecs are you using. ie. the more information you supply the easier it is to assist you.

Thanks for the welcome :-) Sorry I didnt provide enough info wasnt sure if what I put was enough or too much.

Ahh to my knowledge the capture card its the OEM factory one I know its AVerMedia but im not home right now so couldnt be exact for the model. The machine is a Gigabyte HA91 which was at good old Dick Smiths on clearance.

Im looking to use the Gigabyte HTPC for everything (watch tv, dvds, internet etc) but currently SKY STB goes into the LCD TV as well as another line from SKY STB into the Gigabyte HTPC AV Input to the capture card I presume (It has two pairs of AV Inputs)

Media Centre is letting me view Sky TV through Media Centre with sound but when I go to record it it only records the Video no Audio. Sound card is that mass produced Realtek AC97 and I have the audio set to output analogue and SPDIF.

Sorry im not sure about the Codecs issue (sorry im not quite that clued-up with computers) but if you explain the process and advise me where to get it I can surely follow the directions.

Really appreciate your help. Its been quite a while since I bought it and it makes me a little grrrrr knowing there is only one thing wrong now.

You're lucky. there a lot of folks out there with a heck of a lot more than that on their HTPCs.

Not familiar with the AverMedia card, though heard of it. The first thing is to find out what format you are recording in.

Right. I'm assuming you are recording in *.mpg format (for analogue recordings). You can use a programme like GSpot to determine the codecs you are using. Get it here http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html
Not sure if it works with *.ts files if you are recording in high-def.

You could also load the video file directly into Media Player Classic (ver.6.4) as it operates differently from thelater version; Media Player 9,10 or 11. I use a player called Zoomplayer as it is the most configurable out there. Just download the professional version http://www.inmatrix.com/files/zoomplayer_download.shtml it works fine without registering as long as you don't try DVDs. When playing a video file, right-click on the video & move the cursor to 'filter properties' & it will tell what codecs are being used for playback.

If they playback fine inside another app, then the issue is with MCE setup. See how that goes.

From what I can deduce from your reply I need to actually look at the recording format of the incoming video/audio signal and how this is recorded/decoded and then reproduced for me to hear? I hadnt actually thought of that aspect! DOH !

Thanks for your assistance. I will follow up on the links you sent me and let you know how I go.
