Anyone know if the above adaptor works with Asus video cards -Asus 8500GT Silent Magic 512mb one- other than the HDMI of cards? I just bought the 9600GT model for my desktop/gaming rig. It states it doesn't, but that may be inaccurate.

It will detemine what type of cable I buy: straight HDMI or DVI>HDMI one. Would prefer the former as it would probably be a better future-proofing item. Thanks.

Unless the adaptor is non standard, which it shouldnt be, theres no reason for a DVI>HDMI adaptor not to work on any DVI port.

That being the case, I guess I'll find out.

Is there any real Difference in quality between brands? ie. is a Dick Smith generic cable inferior to, say, a Monster one? Ooooops, maybe not that brand, but you get the idea.Laughing

In general, no difference with HDMI. Exceptions are cheap nasty cables and very long ones. Usually buying online is cheaper, eg: http://www.cablesdirect.co.nz/catalog/entry?entry=47. IMO $70 for a 10m cable is pretty damn good. Never used them before but i've heard they are good.

I can confirm that I do get a 1:1 pixel mapped image using the Asus DVI>HDMI adaptor supplied with my 9600GT on my HTPC's Asus EN8500GT. Or at least it is as good as. No issues with audio lag over SPDIF or any other concerns at this stage. Cheers.
