I use Fitzherbert Infill in Wellington. My MediaPortal PC using the EPG collector and my Sony TV have both stopped displaying programs ahead of the current one. When I run the PC xml it brings back programs from the 27 July! So I get a good run, it finds 35 channels and a thousand odd programs, but nothing current.

I am confused because the MediaPortal PC has works for years and I have not played with it and the Sony TV should just work?? But what go me worried is my LG TV is working OK. So has something changed. It looked like it was all good till today, and then no more.

Anyone having problems, or anyone using Fitzherbert working OK?

Thanks - Brad

Just some more info. I delete the xml file so there is no chance its loading an old file. Interesting if I change the date on the computer back to 27th I get a result. So its bring down old program information from the TV Card-Fitzherbert ??

Mine seems to be there. I’m sure I’m fitzgerbert as well.

Click to see full size

I think I only check every 3 days. So I’d assume it’s run.

I have done some more diagnosing .of this and I tried attached some pictures of the screen of my Sony TV EPG but I can't, I dont think I am allowed

It looks like it is only on TV1,2, 3 and Bravo. Looking at the Sony TV it brings down the current program and at times the next program. I left the TV on for 30mins on TV1 to make sure it had time to populate the EPG. But if you go forward past the current and next program then there is nothing!

When I look at my mediacentre the EPG Collector is stuck in the past for these channels also. In the xml it has the 8 days up till midnight on the 3 October. So nothing current and nothing for the future. Just in case something was hanging up in my system I installed a first time ever install of MediaPortal on my office PC and a first time ever install of EPG Collector, using a USB TV dongle I had, and the xml file result is still the same.

My epg collector has no info past midnight last night either.

Usually this is fixed by Updating to the latest version of EPG Collector - I will try that before posting back.

What version of EPG Collector are you running?

Does Media Portal still not support the 8 day EIT EPG?

Yes, but some time back the inbuilt stopped working because NZ is different to the rest of the world, but it does have a plugin that reads in an xml file. So for the last about 8 years I have been using the geekzone EPG Collector. I say geekzone as that is what the directory is called that it installs in. It worked perfectly till last Friday. I have only had to upgrade the collector about 2 years ago when there was a change. So every morning at 9:00am the bat file would go and update the xml. What is confusing is that my Sony TV has never had an issue till now either.

Hi team,

I too have experienced the EPG working up to Midnight Friday from Dunedin, Mt Cargill.

I've updated to the latest fixpack (4.3 FP11) with the same result.  Output tail as below shows that the guide is being received OK, but nothing is being processed (or received?) past midnight Friday 4 August 2018.

Station: TVNZ DUKE (8746,28,1205) Start: 27/07/2018 12:00:00 AM End: 4/08/2018 12:00:00 AM Records: 140 Overlaps: 0 Gaps: 0
Station: TVSN Shopping (8746,34,1504) Start: 27/07/2018 12:00:00 AM End: 4/08/2018 12:00:00 AM Records: 193 Overlaps: 0 Gaps: 0
Station: WairarapaTV (8746,33,1423) Start: 27/07/2018 12:00:00 AM End: 4/08/2018 12:00:00 AM Records: 181 Overlaps: 0 Gaps: 0
<S> Summary: Total Stations = 35 Total Gaps = 0 Total Overlaps = 0 Total Time = 00:00:58.2695150
Deleting any existing version of output file
Creating output file: C:\epg\TVGuide.xml
<C> Finished - output 6540 EPG entries
<C> Exiting with code = 0

Threads on the EPG Collector sourceforge project discuss MHEG5 being turned off in favour of EIT.  Perhaps MHEG5 is no longer being updated with content.  This would explain why it works but all guide entries stop exactly at midnight.

e.g. sourceforge.net/p/epgcollector/discussion/1125946/thread/5b4a9050/

Sorry, not allowed to post links yet :)  I'm going to investigate and will post back here if successful.

Brent.

As per the Sourceforge post if someone can get me a transport stream dump I'll take a look and see if there has just been a change that has caused the lack of data or if in fact MHEG5 is stopping on terrestrial.

Thanks!

1) TS dump here...

1drv.ms/u/s!AiX6VnNwDUJGhrA0t8dE04AYuQQ79w

2) MHEG5 -> EIT nearly works for me.

So I now see that the guide is being populated past midnight Friday, but the Huffman tables aren't working for me with the following options (4.3 FP11)

[DVBT]
TuningFile=New Zealand.Dunedin - Mt Cargill.xml
ScanningFrequency=562000,8,EIT
Location=NZL,0
Option=UseFreeSatTables

When you say 'not working' do you mean the descriptions are garbled?

Post your log.

Thanks, its great to see someone else with the issue. The whole business case is out the window for the technology investment from the finance committee (wife) if Coronation St does not record! I am running the latest EPG collector, I downloaded it for my new install on Saturday. laughing

Sorry, in my head I said something more useful than "not working", honest.

Zip here with log, .ini file, and output.

1drv.ms/u/s!AiX6VnNwDUJGhrA1-X3iGHhwKc5cQQ

I think it might be using the wrong dictionary, as I see there is a NZ dictionary available, but the log shows it loading the UK freesat ones.  aka

Loading Huffman Dictionary 1 from c:\Program Files (x86)\Geekzone\EPG Collector\Configuration\Huffman Dictionary Freesat T1.cfg
Loading Huffman Dictionary 2 from c:\Program Files (x86)\Geekzone\EPG Collector\Configuration\Huffman Dictionary Freesat T2.cfg
Dictionaries loaded

Next steps for me would be to try some file renaming... Brent.

It's working!

Ignore my log files...  not sure exactly what happened but I uninstalled EPG Collector, reinstalled and reapplied FP11.  Then my old config just worked.  User error.

OK, so summary is that for anyone who's guide stopped on Friday, all you need to do is;

1) In EPGCentre, change the "collection Type" from MHEG5 -> EIT

2) Click "Update" and then tick the box that says "Use FreeSat Huffman tables..."

This is what it looks like in the config file for me here in Dunedin.

[DVBT]
TuningFile=New Zealand.Dunedin - Mt Cargill.xml
ScanningFrequency=562000,8,EIT
Location=NZL,0
Option=UseFreeSatTables

Steve, I think the next fixpack/installer may need to make EIT the default for NZ users moving forward...

I also found the "data collection" timeout had to be changed from 300s to 500s to prevent a timeout.

Related; I use MediaPortal, and the inbuilt EPG collector in garbles some channels EPG text, so make sure you turn off MediaPortals EPG collector, and use only the Geekzone EPG Collector...

Thanks for the help Steve, legend.

Hi

I was just composing a reply saying the exact same settings were working now for me too.

Thanks Hoodoo for putting me on to the EIT and UseFreeSatTables option

And once again Steve, thanks for EPG Collector

Michael
