Hey guys I’m looking for some advice on whole house audio. Our must haves are that it can tie in with openHAB and also airplay 2 as were a big apple household.

Were fortunate enough to be in a new house that I’ve ran speaker wire to each room back to a central point.

I’m just wondering what you guys would do? use the speaker wireing in each room or to go with something like Sonos?

You could look at musicast from Yamaha. There is an openHAB Yamaha binding. But this will give you opens of network speakers and network amps.

Though I believe sonos now does an amp also.

Try not to go proprietary.   I bought into a branded whole house system, but then you are at the whim of a manufacturer who can shutdown product lines, or even go bust.  So, now I have wired the house for their system but parts need replacing and I can't.   Luckily the wiring is such that maybe i can switch to another system.

In fact, it is too bad there is not more standardisation in this space.
