Heyas

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a new TV, was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations? There are so many options!

Has to be 60"+ and Under $2000... There seems to be the below TVs all in the same price range. Have seen them all in the flesh, and to my eyes they all looked pretty much the same depending on what shop was playing what.

Panasonic TH-65FX640Z/600Z @ $1700
LG 65UK6500PVC  @ $1700
Sony KDX65X7500F @ $1600
Samsung UA65BY6400 @ $1700
Some Various TCL ones..

Then there is the Veon SRO654K2016-P @ the warehouse for $999 which I know very little about.

Sound quality is not as important as we have a pretty good sound setup already.

Thanks in Advance :)

It's hard to recommend one over the other without knowing your requirements.

If picture quality is important then none of those TVs are any good - the current deal of $2500 or so for the Sony X9000F is a bargain for one of the best panels you'll get without going OLED.

It's direct lit rather than edge lit - I simply can't stand watching edge lit panels as there mostly all horrible.

As above, if your not fussed on picture quality then any of those, if want a great panel then none of those.

How important is HDR, low input lag for gaming, smart features etc?

Just a standard TV for the family lounge with a bit of RDR2 on the side.... the smart TV bits are not important at all.

And yes obviously there is ALWAYS something better for more $$$

Certainly I would go with a TV from one of the big four (Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Sony). Although TCL touts itself as a major player internationally, just not in NZ yet. Disclaimer: I have Panasonic, LG and Samsung TVs in the house.

If you can line up the TV's side by side with the same content, and preferably with the same picture settings (all in dynamic, or normal, or cinema etc and preferably not in display or shop mode) and then move 'off-axis' and view the screen from an angle to the side, that may help. LCD screens, particularly at the cheaper end, suffer badly once you are not viewing the screen front on. Since this is a family TV I'm assuming not everyone will be able to sit in the sweet spot.
Also take a look at the remote. Is it simple or confusing?
These are small points, but at this price point TVs are much of a muchness, so may help you with a decision.

This website is quite useful for specifying your needs and getting a recommendation.

Not all of the TV's are available in NZ, but some of them are.
