Hi there,

I was just wondering if any of you guys know how sky sets up a second decoder so sky can be watched on two different tv's?
Do they use a LNB with two sockets or would a video or signal splitter be used?

I am thinking of getting a second decoder, but want minimise installation costs by doing it myself.

the fee is the same no matter what they do. I had all the stuff good to go, but it still cost me $80 or whatever it was.

Save yourself the hassle and get the installer to sort it.

Sky will not just give you the STB to install either, it must be put in by an installer.

Just be aware that the installer doesn't get paid much by Sky to do the job. So it may be quick and dirty. It may not cost you any less but some preparation by you may make the job more asthetically pleasing. At the very least decide where the splitter will be located and the new RG6 will be run. Even pre-drilling and sorting out socket mounting points and wall plates. Because I can just about guarantee you will end up with a cable sticking out of your skirtingboard otherwise. Its not the installers fault, they just don't get paid enough to cover an extended or difficult installation. You can also pay him extra yourself for a more comprehensive job.

Ok thanks for that. Just to clarify a couple of things so I have a better understanding of everything.

I have a LNB with one connection, would a splitter be used at the inside end of the cable to direct the signal to the other decoder? Or would a multi connection LNB be used?

Currrently Sky do not use multiple output LNBs, they will place a splitter whereever makes sense to split a feed off to the other STB.
