Ok so a bit of Christmas fun.

I’m guessing that just like me you have a couple of white elephants in the cupboard....you know those one off purchases you made thinking this is the best thing ever only for it to sit and gather dust. Or worse be totally surpassed the following week...

Own up... what’s your biggest oh bugger.. moment.

For me it’s probably jumping in to minidisc just before mp3 hit....or it could be the rear projection Tv i bought that needed four people to lift it !

( I still have the MD player...my wife hates it and constantly reminds me about it..lol)

According to my wife.... everything I buy.

The only recent thing that springs to mind, is one of those little speaker units that you stick to a flat surface, and it turns into a loudspeaker. (cant remember what they call them)

Bought one a few years ago, only used it a few times and since then its sat in the draw. Wife has probably forgot about it, and I'm happy for it to stay that way ;) OK, was only $50 but still...

I bought my first digital camera well before the technology was mature. It was around 2001, and I would have been much better to stick with film for another 2 - 3 years.

The same applies with the iPad. I bought the first generation, and it really was an underpowered POS.

I had a minidisc player too.... a Sony MZ-S1...god it took an age to load music onto that! Still got mine too, although I really should try and track down a battery for it, the Sony flat ones. ugh.

I had a couple of odd\obscure things too.

- A A.C Ryan PlayOn! media type of box, it sort of worked, and was mainly used as a network drive to store media (music\photos\videos). On odd occasions it would reformat itself, or just plain lose the stored data. Bought from PB Tech. Really, not the best purchase

- Cowon iAudio X5 portable mp3 player. That was a damned nice little thing. Good battery life, heaps of internal storage (20 or 30Gb). Played anything, video, mp3, wma.

Over the last 40 years various "as seen on TV" exercise equipment from; resistance bands, skipping ropes, several chest & deltoid expanders and gut buster springs and spring loaded tubes, abdominal crunch roll out machine, an exercise bike. All eventually hid in the cupboard or under the bed.

Then finally the big home gym machine off Trademe. It took up a ⅓ of the garage for a year then went back onto Trademe.

The latest being a vibration board off Trademe which we are using probably more than any of the other machines and gimmicks. It's fun and we combine it with our Taoist Tai Chi Foundation Exercises. All while watching Antique Roadshow.

PS: (Taoist Tai Chi Society of New Zealand which we have been doing for a year now)

Oh did try a years gym membership with full assessment, instruction & assistance, went maybe half a dozen times - not my scene AT ALL.

So probably a couple of grand over the years.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Bought an 18v Ozito drill/driver kit earlier this year. Should have bought the drill/driver and impact driver combo kit.

Didn't think that I would need an impact driver, until I had a play with one.

Bunnings now have an impact driver kit at a reasonable price, so will get that in the new year.

Arlo Pro 2 cameras. Really crappy auto contrast so if something (a kelpie) is in the shadow you can't see it, and if something (a labrador) is in the light, you can't see it.

Plus all the accessories are twice the price of competitors.

Should've stuck with Ring.

I dont regret getting (and still using) a minidisc recorder cos at the time there was no other economical way to record live music , and it's still very easy to do so with MD - no computer required and any mug can drive it.

I wish I hadn't spent $600 on that 3 head cassette recorder in the 90s tho -

A whole lot of LG wifi speakers that are dreadful, have no support from LG and only the big ones have a line in so are usefull connected to something else.

Probably lots, but in "recent" memory it was buying the iPad 3, where the 4th generation was much better and was released just months after.

The iPad 3 is underpowered for what its supposed to do, so in many ways was a worse experience than the iPad 2.

The iPad 3 has a retina display (first iPad with that), but not the chops to drive it...

Spent over $1000 on the latest best model iPad (32Gb at the time) with cellular and the Awesome Retina screen only 2 months before it was superseded by the iPad 4 which was so much better again... AND it was the last iPad before the switch iPad4 made to for the ‘new’ lightning adapter too 🤦🏼‍♂️
