Hi folks... I have tried the TVNZ OnDemand and the ThreeNow apps... Those stream ok to my smartphone but when I try to cast to the TV I either get a timeout (TVNZ) or it works only 30% of the time (ThreeNow):

Also checking for updates on the TV doesn't show anything but it seems an update is available for download here - has anyone manually update the TV before?

Anyone had a good experience with these TVs?

I don't have the issue but have updated my sony android TV via usb.

Just do what is on the website and leave it plugged in for a while when you start up the tv.  Mine took about 20 minutes if i remember correctly.

Interesting. Just tested at home with both a Google Chromecast and the new Freeview recorder. It works with Google Chromecast but the Freeview recorder gets the same timeout.

As for issues with the sony android TV's, Yes I have had a few.  My main one is the tv not turning on via the remote and having to pull the power cord.  Firmware updates have made it better however still get it once in a while.

Another issue I have is it dropping wireless sometimes, rebooting fixes that for me.

This TV is about five month old, and is been connected all this time.

For what's worth - both networks (in-laws and here at home) use FRitz!Box 7490 as router. Both connected to 2degrees UFB.

I have the same problem on my A1 55

I didn't try ThreeNow, but I get the same "PLAYER_ERR_TIMEOUT" when tring to cast from the TVNZ app on my phone (also a sony)

I have sucessfully cast other apps to the built in Chromecast.

My TV is on WiFi connected to a FritzBox 4790 connected to Slingshot.  I have no problems playing video from Netflix, Lightbox, Amzon Prime using built in apps.

TV's software is at version PKG6.5629.0177PAA

When using the FreeviewPlus Ondemand app, TVNZ videos are slow to start, and I will often get 15 seconds of audio before video kicks in. Usally comes right before the first Ad has finished, so that is all we miss out on. May be 1 in 5 tries will fail to play and you have to try again. Once video is playing all is good. It has taken at least 3 updates from freeview to get the app in to a "usable" state.

Can confirm, have same problem with my Mi Box, it seems TVNZ had compatibility issues with Chromecast built in devices.
