Looking at getting this logitech remote, any ideas if it works with mediaportal? I need an IR receiver for it too, can anyone suggest one?

Not sure if it would work with Mediaportal out of the box, but would probably depend on the receiver you bought. I'm assuming you don't have the MCE remote. For the cost & the no-hassle intergration of the MCE remote using Mediaportal, maybe you should consider buying that as well, which solves your issues with a receiver. Then you could teach the learner the commands off the MCE one.

I use an older learning remote, Remote Master RM2002 but am not practically able to use it instead of the MCE remote as the learning one does not have enough teaching buttons to cover all the ones on the MCE. I use the Remote Master to macro on/off my AV, TV & HTPC, then use the MCE for Mediaportal.

So, make sure the learning remote you purchase does, and some extras for future devices you may buy. It will save considerable hassles down the line.

I have the Harmony 785 and it works great.

All you need to do is install the Hramony remote software on a PC somewhere and during the setup phase you need to tell it what type of IR receiver you have (im my case i told it i had a Silverstone LC16m case) and it will automatically set up all of the buttons to run. These days there might even be a MediaPortal choice in the setup phase so i'd check that first.

Then you need to install the iMon 6.01 software. The newer software has compatibility issues... you have been warned.

I have a MediaPortal imo (iMon settings file) here: http://www.filedropper.com/mediaportal which you then copy into the appropriate iMon subfolder where all the other presets are and restart the iMon app and there should be a new bunch of settings for MediaPortal in iMon to see.

There are a number of tweaks that might need to be done to the settings file but they're rather straight forward to do so i won't cover that here. All the basics should be working from this file though such as arrow keys and numbers e.t.c.

Decided to simply go with a MCE remote, and add another remote to our huge mass of them. The IR blasters should help out with sky. Can these be used with mediaportal like this?

Not sure as I don't have Sky but no reason why the IR blaster won't work unless the decoder has some proprietary prevention inbuilt but can't think how that could be the case.

Still would recommend a learning remote when funds are available. A big time & space saver. Just do the research & get it right first time -re. button numbers..

The issue was mainly an IR receiver being unavailable seperately. It was cheaper to buy a LC20 case without IR, for $100 less than the one with, and a MCE remote is only $50. And i couldnt guarentee the harmony 525 would play nice with it.
Yes a universal remote like the 525 is what i'd eventually like to get, but as said i needed something to point it at.

I mainly wanted to know if the MCE remote blasters would allow mapping channels similar to MCE in mediaportal, ie i can make tuning channel 5 choose the AV in and blast the command to switch to prime on the sky box. (which is i understand the way it works)

My harmony 525 remote works with mediaportal, using an mce ir receiver...no problems. The harmony puts the pc to sleep and wakes it up too :)
