I'm not talking about the content but rather my screen's surface.

Somehow it looks like the kids have been eating breakfast off the face of my TV. Now that the sun comes into the lounge at certain times of the day the surface of the TV looks like the surface of the moon in relief.

Someone, who shall remain nameless, has tried to 'clean' it using a cloth which has only added to the issue.

I think I'm going to need some kind of fluid and some kind of extremely clean cloth to have a good chance of doing this without making it worse.

Is there any all in one "scunge-be-gone" kit out there?

If you're going to ask "have I tried alcohol" the answer will be 'yes' :-)

If it’s that bad use soap with your soft cloth. You may need to scrub the spots with your fingertip pushing on the cloth. Do a final clean with the iso

Our kids knew to never touch the TV, they wouldn't be watching it for a while if they did ;)

I use glasses cleaner and a microfiber cloth for my monitor. Even better would be LCD monitor cleaner.

Any idea what the active ingredient in your glasses cleaner is?

I want to be careful I don't use something too harsh on the plastic of the TV - since glasses are glass they might tolerate different chemicals.

I use this stuff to good effect. It's primarily for cleaning camera equipment but it's also officially recommended (and very effective) for cleaning monitors and TVs.

These are my favourite cleaning cloths.

Understood. Although it looks like they've been eating weatbix on the face of the tv, I don't think they actually have.

In all honesty my answer won't be popular around here...

But the best screen cleaner I've ever used is Monster screen cleaner - yup, Monster.

Get your favourite lint free micro fibre cloth, make sure the panel is turned off (and has been for a long time) and is cool so the fluid doesn't get baked on to your panel... and clean away.

I had heard of monster energy drink but I googled screen cleaner and I see it's different

So basically, consensus seems to be I have to go find some special goop and a special type of cloth.

I think I have some old monitor wipes in a tube somewhere so I'll dig those out and try on a patch.

The best stuff comes in those blue bottles. CDL do one with a cleaning cloth

Thanks for your tips everybody.

I found some old sygnet computer wipes. They were a bit dry and couldn't produce enough liquid to moisten the gunge. At this point I had a brain wave and realised we have a few baby wipes.

It took a few of them but the combination of slightly soapy fluid and lint free cloth which didn't leave anything behind worked a treat.

I usually use warm water with a drop of detergent, and a clean rag. Comes up spotless every time. Usually lasts about 2 days before I notice a new smear, tomato sauce was a good one!

A clean microfibre cloth and maybe a little water (or at a push mild detergent solution) can clean nearly anything safely.

It can't just be any rag tho since many leave fibres behind. Part of the reason for being so dirty is that my wife used a 'clean cloth' which wasnt.
