I have one of those legendary Panasonic plasma's but the family has grown and we are in a new house sitting further back. Time for a 65" We use netflix and plex with some youtube for the kids. Getting fiber so likely to upgrade to 4k Netflix My roku 4 just died so will need to get another or something else as I need plex Budget is $2500 What are the best ones around this price range?

I've got an LG 65" LED that I'm pretty happy with, given its Waitangi Day in a few days you maybe able to pick up a bargain

You can’t go wrong with an 8 series Sony lcd or a 8 series Samsung lcd.

I recently replaced a Panasonic Plasma with an LG C8 OLED. After the awesome picture on the Panasonic, I couldn't bring myself to go for a lesser TV.

Yeah, I've been really happy with it. It's got a great picture - impressive colours and blacks.

I've also been really impressed with the smart features and UI, which wasn't a huge consideration for me up front (thinking I'd use Apple TV or similar). It's very quick to change inputs (and apps), which my Panasonic Plasma was not.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yea picked up a 65" LG 4K OLED in the weekend. Holy crap! I wish we got OLED waaaaay sooner. Just can't beat that picture quality.

Edit:And the "webOS" smart features rock too. Has meant I can remove my old raspberry pi, and play directly to the TV via Plex. Then you have built-in Spotify, TVNZ etc... There is a whole app store with add-ons.

The only two odd things I notice.

1) 'Tipping Point' on TV1 has the worlds lowest resolution of any TV show. Looks like it's 320x240 or something . It's not the TV, because I can see it one other TV's too - it's just a lot more obvious now the picture is bigger.

2) US/Canadian house shows on HGTV, which use far too much panning around rooms etc, can look juddery. Strangely, the same types of shows, with similar panning on TV1 etc do not exhibit this problem. Watching on the old TV, which is now in my bedroom, the juddering is there, but looks less annoying. I think it's a something to do with the combination of frame rate conversion done by the broadcaster, and the TV also not liking it.

Other than that, everything has been great.

It depends how picky a viewer you are. As with audio, doubling the amount spent on an LCD may only achieve a 10% better picture.

A rough Google tells me LG C8 55 is about $2500 and 65 about $3500 Thats pretty darn good, last time I noticed posts here on OLED they were in the 7k region

LG C8 65" is around $4500 from the common retailers (JB, Harvey Norman etc)

Only 65" TV in that price range that is any good is the Sony X8500F (has hit around $2500 on special).

Whether it delivers a better picture than your Plasma will friend on the model or the age. An OLED is the only direct replacement, but doesn't fall within your budget.

Only thing with Sony us they use Android TV which people either love or hate - there is no middle ground.

I used to have a 65" Panny ST60 Plasma. Had a screen issue so was swapped under warranty with a Panny 4K DX700. They swore black and blue i was winning with the swap. Nope....it was nowhere near as good as the plasma. Then at the beginning of last year i picked up one of the last new LG C7 OLEDs . What a revelation....finally i had a smile on my face. Long story short. Save some dosh and wait for the next sale. During the new years sale the LG C8s were around $3800. Definitely worth the wait.
