Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on getting the SVHS input working on the HVR-2200. I just get a blue screen (but not of death!) when I try and view this channel. I have tried using a number of different cables, and using both MediaPortal and WinTV which comes with the card, but to no avail. Digital and analogue TV are both working fine, just not SVHS. I have tried three or four different sets of drivers, currently using the latest from the NewMagic site. At one stage after installing some drivers I did briefly get a working picture, but the next day it was not working again! Hardware issue? Driver conflict? This thing is driving me nuts!

Cheers

Andrew

Is that with s-video<->s-video and composite<->composite?
If you can get analogue tv ok then i wouldnt expect the encoder chip to be faulty.

I really want to use this to connect my UHF Sky decoder (don't ask!) in to MediaPortal via composite (I have a composite <-> SVideo cable) , but I have been testing using a S-Video <->S-Video connection to a DVD player and still no joy...

What combinations of drivers / programmes are people using successfully for SVHS input?

I've never tried S-Video<->S-Video because i dont have that cable but composite<->composite worked fine for me. All drives worked fine to from cd or hauppauge website. If it doesnt work in wintv or media portal it most likely wont work in other pvr's since it's just analogue so nothing special to setup.
Anyway here's some prv's i've tried before: Honestech VHS to DVD, Mainconcept PVR, IUVCR, WinVDR and Media portal.
Can you hook up the dvd player to your card through composite?

I don't have a composite input on my card! I didn't think it was an option on the 2200

but you should have got a s-video to composite converter. Ah wait they only sell the oem version here :(
Does your graphics card come with a  s-video to composite converter?

Yes, and have used it to try connecting the Sky decoder to the PC without success (well it did work once, but not the next day). Haven't tried that on the DVD player though.

Have tried dvd via composite - still no joy. I'm not surprised really as it is just converted into SVHS via the cable anyway. At this stage I can only see two options - delete everything and start again, or send the card back and ask for a replacement. Don't really want to have to reinstall everything,  but I'm sure if I send the card back and they can't find anything wrong I'll end up paying for it...

The only way I could get a working S-VHS connection into my HVR-2200 was to set up a Cable TV connection in Vista Media Centre. I tried for days to get it working in PowerCinema and even poked around in DVBViewer hoping they would detect it but, no joy.

The major problem appears to be that the S-Video connection has to use one of the two tuners. The S-Video port is not a seperate item. Even setting it up in media centre is a bit of a mission because the Cable connection option assumes hard wired remote control cables are connected to your STB. You can skip past this part of the setup but causes problems when trying to record from the S-Video connection. (I have sky feeding into it via MCE but because it conflicts with DBVViewer it's not an acceptable solution for me)

I have read on some other forums that some types of TV software will accept 'SVHS' or 'SVHS1' as a TV channel which gives you a connection to the port.

Good Luck.

This may be a silly question but have you clicked the "Add SVHS/VHS Channels" button in the Media Portal TV Server config under TV Servers -> ServerName --> Analogue Hauppauge Win TV...? I got caught out with this recently when setting up the same thing as you. I had manually added a channel then under the analogue tab selected SVHS1, but without the step above it won't work. Just a thought...
