I downloaded the trial version of this several weeks ago (available here) but only installed it this morning. This codec seems to perform far better than the Cyberlink PDVD7 or PDVD8 one - issues I had with video/audio sync loss and loss of sync after skipping forward or back in GB-PVR are gone and the interlacing seems very good.

It's certainly well worth trying as well if you're using an ATI card - it supports full hardware acceleration with ATI or NVidia cards and it'll be interesting to see if it's H.264 decoding works any better on systems that had issues.

Installed this on my Windows Vista box, when I try to start it comes with "An internal exception occurred". Dvbviewer can't use the decoder complaining it's not installed, even though it's listed.

Removing it.

I installed it a couple months ago in a hope to fix the ATi/interlacing problem with my HD2400XT but no such luck.

Speaking of h264 codecs, the MPC-HC codecs which ive mentioned before support h264 with hardware acceleration. Best thing is they are open source and free. Unfortunately they dont work too well with mediaportal (wrong pinout) or interlaced video. Don't know about other players. I've been using the TotalMedia Theater product to get Blu-ray and HD DVD working from within MCE.  Works a treat.  Great quality too.

Thanks for the pointer to this new software,  Ive installed it and umm with my HD2600xt with the latest drivers and finally got the hardware on the crad to do the decoding, cpu dropped from 30% to 5%, but when it does hardware I get the green spazzy view.
Oh well at least there is an opthin to turn hardware off and it does look nicer.

It plays the recorded programs from GPVR no worries.  I think it's good software even if  it's ATI that has not fixed there decoding issue.

Good find.

I have installed it & so far appears superior to the PowerDVD7 codec I was using. The PowerDVD was having an occasional strange effect, mainly on TV1. This has gone & deinterlacing also seems better.

Is it just me, or does the channel changing appear quicker than using PowerDVD? Why could that be?

As the H.264 codec installs with the programme install, anyone know if it will remain functional after the player trial expires?

Just got around to trying this in MediaPortal - runs a lot nicer than PDVD8 does, smoother decoding, lower CPU usage and faster channel changes.

Will be using this from now on ;)

If you could isolate the .ax file then register it by itself im thinking it would like with PowerDVD but im thinking it must be combined into a dll file or something because i can't find it.

Yes it seems better on my system as well, just installed it.  Far faster with channel changes than cyberlink.
How long does the trial last?

Doesn't appear to support 64bit. I tried to install the trial version on xp64. It installed fine, but on reboot went into a BSOD. Uninstalled it from safe mode.

Does Arcsoft TotalMedia H264 Codec still suffer from the same ati hardware deinterlacing bug that PDVD8 suffers from.

ie. PDVD8 + Hardware Acceleration + ATI Card (eg. onboard ATI HD3200) + C4/TVNZ6+7 = Green blocky bits

Yes it does but there is an option to turn off hardware acceleration, which causes it to play without the green.
I still use PDVD8 as it works better for me.

ATI have really dropped the ball in foxing this green problem,  not even Mauricio visit with some of ati's top people has fixed this (nice try Mauricio thanks).

I'm looking at getting a nividia card as they work.

Yes. With this codec and h/w acceleration enabled i also get green blocky bits with channel TVNZ SPORT EXTRA on my ATI HD4850. Turn off h/w accel and all channels play fine.

p.s I'm using 8.5 drivers.

Catalyst® Version 08.7 is what isn'tr working for me.

Just downloading version 08.8 from ATI http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

They have had a case of stupid on the installer, as they force you to install a fee trial of WOW.

Arcsoft has expired so can't test it's codec
