Hi all

I have been looking at the 2019 Tv's being released by Panasonic and Sony (mainly) and cant really see much difference in the specs from the 2018 to the 2019 models ?

If thats the case then surely a 2018 model in the upcoming easter sales bonanza would be a better deal than waiting for the new 2019 model with pretty much the same spec ?

any thoughts ?

I agree. I’m doing pretty much the same thing, waiting for retailers to start clearing out 2018 models in preparation for the new ones. It seems like it happens from about April onwards going on previous years.

I got chatting with one of the guys in Harvey Norman recently, he said between April-May, depending on the manufacturer, is when they start rolling them out.

Hoping OLED comes down further, but it looks like they are trying to keep OLED as the premium option, so will be keeping an eye out for a 2018 Sony X9000f on clearout.

Sony has an upgrade to Android 8 coming soon, was delayed after they noticed the audio would time out after long periods in standby and affect those with external receivers (ie me).

If you're into google then a Sony TV is useful.

On the flipside, I've found it quite clunky and not ideally suited as a TV OS, as it kinda presents as a large tablet that doesn't have a touchscreen.

I have a Sony A8F 2018 OLED and don't see any real benefit for my use in any updates in the 2019 models - I use Apple TV for all of my content so the TV is just a monitor really. Save yourself some money and get the 2018 I would say. Personally, I'll likely upgrade in 2 more years (I agreed a 3-year cycle with the women in charge of my money).

thats my opinion too

i was tempted when i saw that the OLEDs are dropping in price but i still think the reasonable purchase would be LED LCD in the easter sales.

Really depends what and how you watch. I have the Sony 65 AIE and love it. But I wanted great build in sound and full app access. I also needed top end playback of crap/lower quality avi. Best $7000 I have ever spent. Both brands are excellent (I have 3 Pany VT Plasma). Both years models are excellent tvs. If price matters go older. If one feature is what you need then pay for it and enjoy.

Yup I would say go for the 2018 models if you can, I have the 2018 65 LG oled and I doubt I would notice any difference with a 2019 model. The webos is a decent system for it and I have an Apple 4k tv hooked up to it and use infuse to stream all the 4k content off my nas.

Save yourself some money and perhaps use it to upgrade your sound system to go with it.

x9000f is a great middle ground before OLED. Have mine for 2 weeks now and its movie night every night :)

The 2019 LG OLEDs are supposed to come with HDMI 2.1 rather than 2.0

Not needed for 4K but may be worth it for some features like eARC and VRR etc. that won't be on last year's model.

Not an OLED, but the LG 49" (or 55" or 65") 4K TV's are fairly decent. I got the 49" 7500 series model during the Cyber Monday sale for just under $1100. They're currently around $1250 at JB Hi Fi. They either seem to be 1250 or 1200 t JB depending on the sale they're having that week.

I've got no complaints with the 49 (49UK7500)

Harvey's have the 7500 in 55" and maybe 65", and then the the 8500 series in 49". Although the 8500 series 49" is a bit more pricey, at around $2k
