Does anyone know if something has changed with Chromecast or Chrome browser? I use Chrome browser on a Win 7 laptop with cast extension to cast to a Shield. That is all I use it for. It has always worked perfectly. Now suddenly I am having problems. Tab casting still seems to work fine and Desktop works some of the time though I have had some Cast Failed errors, but I can't seem to get file cast to work at all. If I try to cast any video file, I either get an error or nothing happens or the video plays on the laptop but doesn't cast. I also tried it on another laptop with Win 10 and got the same result. I can't think of anything that has changed at my end so I am left wondering what could be causing this difference?

Your Chromecast server software could have auto-updated?

Anyway, I've found issues can be resolved by rolling back to an earlier server version.

Also try your Settings > Server > Network in the Plex Web App, make sure that the Secure Connections preference is not disabled

I'm having no problems casting tabs, desktop, files up to 4k. But we've only got Chrome in common as I'm on Windows 10 and casting to a cabled Chromecast Ultra.

I understand that a recent update altered the CastDesktop function, you now have to click on the left hand "screencap" to activate the SHARE button. Its giving me a probllem anyway, I don't get any sound from the cast video on my tv.

I'm using a VPN to access BBC iplayer via Google Chrome browser and I always get a BBC iplayer Ready to cast message on my tv. I found a workaround..I choose any video on the main BBC page, cast tab to my tv, PAUSE then navigate to the video I want to view on BBC iplayer and that then appears on my tv.

Don't know if this avoidable, I have had a long phone chat with a Chromecast helper and they are looking into it.

I have been scratching my head over a laptop Chromecast issue. Tab casting works fine but desktop or file casts fail. I went away from it for awhile and then took another look today and discovered that the problem is actually related to the laptop audio. For some reason the cast fails if the audio tab is checked, but it works fine without the audio. I discovered this because I stumbled across some oblique references to audio issues while searching for answers. They weren't directly relevant to my problem but they made me try disabling the audio just to see what would happen and suddenly it worked!

Now my problem is to try and figure out why this is happening and how to fix it. Does anyone know more about this? Why does casting with audio enabled cause the cast to fail, but doing it without audio works? I should point out that tab casting always works, also the audio. What is the difference here? If it works for the tab, why not also with the desktop? I have been Googling for answers but not finding much help, also not from Chromecast support.

Do you have the actual audio drivers on the laptop or just randoms that windows found for you? I also had casting problems when I had steam installed since it seems to install a crapload of its own audio drivers for gamestreaming.

Good point. I inherited the laptop and the drivers came with it. I didn't want the hassle of a clean install and I only use the laptop in a very limited way so I haven't changed anything. I'm pretty sure the drivers are HP original but I might try updating them. I still don't understand why this is a problem for Chromecast.

I spotted a truncated message which in full says "Casting system audio is not supported on this device" and googling found a number of answers including https://www.thewindowsclub.com/casting-system-audio-is-not-supported-on-this-device

I've tried everything listed and I still don't get audio.

I have also had that message though it seems inconsistent. I have since discovered that I can cast an MP4 file (FLV doesn't work) by navigating to the file location from a Chrome tab and then casting the tab. I then get full playback, video and audio. I'm not sure what this means but all the ingredients are there, they just won't work together.

Are you casting to a real chromecast or something else? I cant seem to cast some things to my mibox, I think that desktop was one I had issues with. Some websites too wouldnt work but I did see something in its update about the casting stuff. Not tried since then since I just got one of my old chromecasts out of hiding, now I have the ethernet adapter for them they work fine, unlike when on wifi.

I wouldn't be bothering about my CaskDesktop problem if I could solve the mystery of why I get the "BBC iplayer is ready to cast" message on my tv when i try to CastTab. Some less than helpful suggestions have been that I should try disabling VPN....when I'm accessing BBC from NZ...DUHH!

I am casting to a Shield. With some things like this I start to doubt my memory, but I'm pretty sure that something changed. This used to work, now it doesn't and I don't know what is different.

It's the Chrome browser. Different computers.

I have found another, slightly easier, way to Cast BBC iplayer.

I open a GoogleChrome browser on my laptop, CastTab to my tv, then open BBC iplayer from that browser and I can then immediately get that CastTab to my tv without the annoying "BBC iplayer ready to cast" message.

Unfortunately I still haven't found a way to cast any of the on demand material from the ITV Hub.
