Wife prefers TV sound higher than comfortable for me.
Plugging headphones into TV disables sound for me.
I have googled situation (which appears is not uncommon) but am unable to find a solution. Can anyone offer advice please?
Thanks, Ken

Hearing aid may be appropriate, unless you just have sensitive hearing.
In that case you could both wear headphones, though that won't help for conversation. I think Sennheiser has some designed for TV. TV headphones. The real trick would be getting the speakers to keep working when you have headphones plugged in. Maybe you need an external speaker for that.
The only thing I have seen that might help is this:

Not cheap - but provides one person with their own sound booster - I think they can plug headphones into it too.
Looks like you would have to import.

Looks useful for this use case, but the website is a little bit funny...
This easy-to-use wireless speaker ... it’s plug-and-play it’ll get to work right out of the box
Do you have optical output from TV?
You can get Optical to Bluetooth transmitters and optical will pump out simultaneously as speakers.
I know my Samsung TV has an option when using Bluetooth connected headphones to allow sound just through Bluetooth or both TV speaker and Bluetooth. I'm pretty sure the option only appears when you have Bluetooth connected though. It has a downside however in that volume is not independently controllable, so you need Bluetooth headphones with a volume control (expensive lesson on my part).
That may or may not help your situation...
This sort of thing looks set up for your situation - I guess its a sort of hearing aid - but more suited to TV watching:
Actually at $89 NZD that looks pretty good - Its $49USD on Amazon.

Bluetooth has no ability to clock the audio and video together so the lipsync will be great, then it won't, then it will, then it won't.
It's a compromise, I'd talk to a Senheiser retailer.
For my dad I bought him a pair of wireless headphones where the base takes a line-level input and plugged them into the audio recording output (I think in this case it is labelled MD/Tape Out) on the AVR. The idea of using the optical out of the TV above would be similar to this. It is slightly out of sync, I notice it, dad doesn't. But with the particular headphones I got (they're not bluetooth) the "sync" is consistent.
My solution is a little different but it works. I have digital audio from the TV into an amp. TV speakers are also left on. Wireless headphones plugged in disable the speakers and feed the transmitter, which is always on. When I want to use the headphones, I just turn them on. If someone is on the phone or talking in the room, I kill the amp audio with the remote and continue listening on the headphones.
