Normally I have had a 3.5mm plug going to an old Technics amp for years via 2 RCA connectors for years.

I did a re arrange of the lounge and connected the PC to the amp and for the life of me cannot get sound coming through the amp anymore.

The only output option it says available is the digital audio connector. Because I hadn't checked the sound card properties for some time I cant remember what the default device was. I'm assuming it was speakers but the volume icon has a red x and the trouble shoot says not connected but the amp is on so...

Any ideas? It will only default to the digital connector and enables it as default device.

Windows 10. Fully updated drivers.

Check its in the right socket. Usually a green one on desktop PCs

Definitely on the green socket. If it helps, I have an HDMI out to the TV as well. Not sure if that affects what shows in the sound card output devices

If I enable "speakers" the red x appears . No ability to select as default device

If I enable digital output, and select as default device, the red x disappears and I can see the volume bar lighting up.

That's the thing I dont have a digital audio connector attChed between the PC and amp, but it says this is the default device

The HDMI cable has digital audio. The HDMI port on the video card will usually turn up as a separate audio device. So maybe you are looking at the settings for the HDMI audio device, rather than the PC motherboard audio device.

It is probably windows sending audio over the HDMI cable. Rather than to your motherboard audio output connector.

You need to change your default playback device on your computer to the motherboard sound card, rather than the digital device (which as mentioned above it the HDMI output).

In Windows 10, right click the volume icon in the system tray, Open Sound Settings, Choose the output device from the dropdown list (probably Realtek or similar).
