Was closely watching the LG 65" C8 series TV come down in price as the C9 was announced earlier in the year. They got down to $4200 (I was waiting for $4000) then they seemed to just disappear overnight. Almost all listings off PriceSpy gone and have also gone back to ridiculous pricing of over $7000!

Maybe some of you have seen retailers with stock I could be pointed to?

If the stock has dried up then I need to look for an alternative, The C9 seems obvious but current pricing is too high (and very limited)

What would you recommend as an alternative to the C8?

Most retailers were clearing out LG 2018 stock towards the end of April. You snooze you lose when you're dealing with clearance stock!

Yup - sell through support from manufacturers would have been for the Queens Birthday weekend... so the suppliers only get rebated when they actually sell the product... not for product sitting on the shelf / in their warehouses.

Looks like your chances have just become quite slim.

does it have to be LG C8?

Panasonic FZ350 was $3400 on queen's birthday, i imagine if they didn't sell enough it will be discounted again soon

I'm admitting defeat as to sourcing an LG C8, so open to recommended alternatives. Will look into the Panasonic, haven't really considered them. Thought their time was during the plasma era, are they back in the game these days?

Was told there were some comparable Sony models to the C8 also, mixed reviews online.

Looked at the LG B8 but given they are now the price at what the C8 was during run-out I can't justify the spend knowing the price of what the C8 was

Batman:

Panasonic FZ350

This model number seems to refer to a digital camera, can you confirm the model of the TV?

In all seriousness if you were after this specific TV you were very late to the party. Pricing had already been down well under $4k during specials pretty constantly since Boxing Day and the clearance stock and good deals were all around Easter so the current pricing was no means a good deal.

Sony A8F is a vastly superior TV than the LG in many (but not all) respects. The one thing to be aware of is that Android TV is either loved by people or hated by people - there is no middle ground.

In all seriousness with the C9 being so much superior to the C8 I certainly wouldn't be buying a TV right now unless I was willing to may the new model premium until the discounting cycle starts to happen again.

There are many complaints over the interweb about the AF8's auto dimming "feature". Apparently it just dims the TV randomly to protect its longevity and that you can't turn off that "feature".

Their auto-dimming change was reversed through with a firmware fix. LG encountered similar dimming issues and were also forced to release a patch after complaints.

The one major failing with the C8 was the motion blur, which has been improved considerably in the C9 if you're to believe the good technical reviews.

I know its too late, but for the future, always ask sales person/lead, exactly my situation, I just asked for it and got it for 4k + $300 debit card(hope so, cause still waiting for it)

Is that to do with black frame insertion? Is so you can have motion smoothing without BFI on that model cos I don't notice the darkness when I turn off a toggle.

The models I'm looking at now are:

- Sony A8F/AF8
- Sony A9F/AF9
- LG 65B9

But looks like A9F and B9 are out of my price range at the moment. Has the Oreo update been released for the A8F in NZ? Sony website states due Feb 2019 but then also says it has been delayed but not until when.

It hasn’t been released here yet. Posts on Reddit from online chats with Sony suggest this month for the Asia-Pacific region.

2020 MacBook Air M1 (Space Grey) | 2023 Mac mini M2 | 2021 iPad Pro 11" M1 (Space Grey) | 2021 iPad mini (Space Grey) | iPhone 15 Pro Max (Natural Titanium) | HomePod (Space Grey) | 10x HomePod mini (Space Grey, White, Yellow, Blue, Orange) | 4x Apple TV 4K | Apple Watch Ultra 2

Right now is not the time to be buying a TV if you're after a good deal - clearance stock has basically all gone and new models are selling at full RRP everywhere.
