My MIL wants to watch Coro without the adds, I presume TVNZ on demand.

The options I have narrowed it down to is a Chrome cast or Apple TV, the chrome cast plays more content but I think the apple TV is the slightly better option.

I am not a fan of the DishTV / SmartVu / cheap Chinese android TV.

Is there anything else I could consider, has to be MIL friendly ( turning 70 )

Unless it has changed or you do something to actively block them, TVNZ on demand puts ads in to the stream.

Hi John,

Definitely Apple TV. The remote may be a little bit unfriendly for her (it has a touch panel for navigation). If she is OK with using a smart phone, the remote may be fine.

Other options for a remote are using one from an earlier ATV (with buttons), or a Logitech Harmony.

Apple TV will give her TVNZ OnDemand, TV3, Lightbox, Netflix, FanPass, Spark Sport (If she wants any extras).

There will still be ads in Coro, but nowhere near as many.

I was leaning towards the apple TV.

Isn't there a freeview dongle that works like a chromecast that comes preloaded with all the NZ on demand apps?

Would be less expensive and easier to use than Apple TV?

Here is the official Freeview streaming device https://www.freeviewnz.tv/stream-freeview/

If the person is happy and comfortable using an Android phone, and they have a fairly modern one get a Chromecast. Otherwise either the Freeview device or Apple TV depending on budget.

If you want access to Freeview On Demand (TVNZ, Three) then there's no need for "Chromecast" or "Phone for remote control".

The Dish TV stream device has access to Freeview on-demand. The remote control is the same as a TV. You only need a Google account to start setup.

Look at the product page here and you will see the remote control: Freeview DishTV SmartVU. The remote control has buttons labelled "Freeview" and "Netflix" to make it even easier.

The device also has Netflix, Spark Sport and Lightbox.

Yes, I just wanted to expand and link to the product page where the OP can see the remote.

Also TVNZ does insert ads on its on-demand stream. If you are lucky, no ads will show, only a short second break - I've been watching some programs from Three and those are not showing any ads (or only one or two per episode).

What has put me off this device is there is a thread here someware that I cant find this second says they have overheating issues / glitches and audio sync issues.

I need something to be rock solid.

I am going to recommend the Apple TV.
