3 and a half year old plasma tv has developed narrow black vertical line down screen that comes and goes intermittently. Any ideas to reason why and possible remedy?

Sounds like you'll get to get it checked out by a technician, a problem like that could be intermittent failure of point where ribbon cables are attached to glass panel itself...
