Hi everyone, I am currently planning to purchase a amp for my ps3. just wondering do I really need a amp with internal Dobly True HD/DTS M HD decoder, or just a amp which can decode LPCM since PS3 cannot bitsteam Dobly True HD/DTS M HD? Plus, would PS3 bitsteam HD sound in the future through firewire update?

Many thanx!

Hi didi10000000000000000000. Best current amateur-expert opinion is that the PS3 will never be capable of bitstreaming the HD formats. Not a problem, as you say, unless you like the pretty TrueHD etc lights to go on on your receiver.

Though you'll likely save a few hundred dollars if you go for an HDMI LPCM receiver only, it might be still be worth getting a HDMI 1.3 rated receiver just for it's generally better implementation of HDMI and additional features.
