I am struggling to get Chromecast to work properly through my Denon AVR1911 receiver.

The sound is OK, but the picture is flickering in and out of shot with green, red pink etc colour splashes.

Tried the standard and ultra versions. Same result.

All good on the TV itself and casts OK through my iPhone.

Interestingly when I reset the device there is a short period of time (15 seconds) when it is rebooting, the screen is stable. But after that its back to the flickering in and out of picture.

Tried all the HDMI ports to no avail. SAT/DVD/BD all working fine.

I'm wondering if it is a voltage issue. The Chromecast is using its factory mains adapter and not USB into AVR.

Help! I need for RWC.

Cheers

John

Well if it works ok on the TV itself and you have an ARC capable HDMI connection or optical tv audio out, then at least you have a work-around.

As to the problem itself, do any other devices show issues with using the HDMI inputs aka could it it be an issue with the HDMI board in the Denon going bad?

Voltage shouldn't be a problem if you are using the correct adapter, as it would just produce a similar input as USB.

Chromcast f/w is current but probably not the AVR which is a 2011 model. Do you think it can be updated?

very old - goodluck with that one

you may be better off plugging the chromecast into the TV and using the TVs ARC to return the audio to the AVR

Doesn't look good for a firmware update. If other devices are working, then it is most likely a compatibility issue. See if there are any compatibility settings that you can play with around the hdmi inputs?

2010 is a long time ago in home theater though.

How does that work when all audio is pushed in one direction for all other devices?

So ARC will allow you to essentially push it back up the HDMI pipe between two compatible devices. Generally in the form of a TV mode on the receiver, which will play the audio stream received from the TV through a specifically designated ARC/TV out port, while the TV handles the display. It is somewhat patchy in terms of reliability and limited in audio quality, but should work for this case.

Edit: https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hometheater/receivers/avr1911, look for Audio Return Channel

Yep it works a treat. I didnt have the TV input enabled on the AVR.
