Hi all,

I am starting to look around at buying a mid range soundbar for our lounge. I have a budget of about $1000 to spend and obviously want the best possible value for money.

I'd read some reviews etc. on the below devices.

1. Yamaha YAS 408

2. Sony X9000F

3. Samsung Q70R

Does anyone have any experience with these or have some valuable input?

Thanks,

Scott.

I have a SAMSUNG HW-MS650 SOUNDBAR, it was at the time about $799 and it's very, very good.  The sound quality compared to the TV speakers is 1,000% better.  Having a Samsung TV the one remote operates both, soundbar turns on and off with it.

If it were to fail for some reason and need to be replaced I'd buy the similar model again.

I have the Samsung having replaced  the Sony X9000F I bought a week earlier :-(  I bought the Sony without listening to it much in the store (NL) but it sounded okay. I liked the Atmos ant DTS-X feature.

But when I listened at home I found the dialogue coming from the centre channel was unlistenable. It was shrill and lacked any mid range. But surprisingly all the review I read were very complimentary.

Anyway NL took it back and I switched to the Samsung which is much better. Dialogue sounds great and when I play some Atmos content, there is overhead audio action.

The only downside is it has no OSD while the Sony did. So all functions are displayed on a little LED display on the front while the Sony had an OSD

Happy with it.

My only comment would be that the Samsung bars seem to only get 1 year of firmware updates (look at the 2018 ATMOS bars that didn't get the updates of the new models). I'm unsure whether or not Sony will do that? Can anyone verify? I will say that TV brands replace / forget quicker than audio brands like Sonos / Yamaha / Denon etc.

Food for thought.

Thanks everyone.

I'm going to take a wander to a few stores and see if I can listen to the Q70r and the LG SL8YG which seems to be very similar.
