Sonos have announced a new speaker designed to be used outside with weatherproofing, battery operation, etc.

While not the cheapest Sonos speaker (and Sonos speakers aren't cheap!), it should address the 'I want Sonos on my patio' question.

I've ordered mine this morning from https://www.avworld.co.nz/shop/product/sonos-move/overview

It's a similar price to a Play 5 II which I suspect trumps it for sound quality (the reviews will soon let us know). So unless you have an absolute need for outdoor use, I'd suggest better bang for buck from the larger Play 5.

True - but it would be great outside on the deck being battery powered and IP56 proofed as OP says.

Saw these recently:

https://www.cnet.com/news/sonos-move-cuts-the-cord/

https://www.cnet.com/videos/sonos-move-is-both-an-indoor-and-outdoor-wireless-speaker/

The second link is a brief video review and confirms that’s not quite up to the sound quality of the Play 5, as you say,  but better than the smaller Sonos One. Very cool IMO but may be hard to justify a user case to the Expenditure Comptroller given that we already have quite a bit of Sonos stuff.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Should sell loads!

I still laugh at the ads where Sonos harpooned the use of Bluetooth on speakers.

And now, here we are, looking at a launch of a Sonos speaker with Bluetooth on-board (and all the old anti-Bluetooth ads nicely hidden away).

I would have thought the killer feature for these speakers would have been the ability to work as WiFi rears for their soundbars? Then you could put them in place to watch a movie and back on their stands to charge afterwards?

I like Sonos indeed my outdoor solution is a pair of Polk outdoor speakers connected to an amp inside with a Sonos Connect.  That seems to do everything I need at a good price and quality.

+1, 2 x Sonos Amp 2 "merged together" powering 4 x Speakercraft AIM273 + Sonos Sub, (HDMI ARC when playing via TV) sounds way better than my previous Marantz receiver. also have lots of the older Sonos AMP's for other speakers around the house and will be buying a new outdoor speaker to try out.

So you have a 4.1 Sonos system for TV playing via the new Sonos amps?

Just curious who came up with the idea?

Yes sure do - It's kind of a "5.1" with a phantom centre channel (well actually I have 4.2 as have another B&W sub too) when you add your second AMP you can select an option to "merge" it into an existing amp and use the other amp as surround speakers. The second amp no longer appears in the Sonos menu and acts like 2 extra speakers of the existing AMP.

For example when i turn on my TV the Sonos AMP starts up via HDMI ARC, and turns on the other amp automatically and splits the front/rear channels appropriately.

Not sure if it would work to extend to a 6.2 system, but might have a play and find out - I could not find much info on the Sonos website about this. I'll post some pics of what this looks like in the Sonos app if anyones interested.
