(Not sure if this should be under HT but anyway...)

I'm selling a projector on behalf of someone else. It's from a deceased estate.

The issue is that I've asked them how much the projector had been used by the owner (deceased) and they told me that it had been used quite a bit - the actual lamp hours it at zero which raises the question if it has been reset by mistake at some stage or if the lamp had been replaced.

I just don't want to sell a white elephant if I can avoid it. Is there anyway to look at the actual lamp (i.e. serial #) and work out if the lamp is newer than the Projector?

It's an Epson EB-S110.

The lamp housing will look baked and brittle if its done its 5000hrs.

Like the handle on an old pot.

New lamp housing will be shiney.

The projector is only 2600 lumens and 800X600 resolution with only VGA and std def video inputs.

Pretty basic even when new.

Yes that lamp housing looks good, no sign of dust in the grill on the side.

Even the lamp itself looks OK although it can be very hard to tell by looking into the lamp.

Old lamps can look good and new ones can have discoloured or uneven tones on the inside.

Most projector lamp hours are reset manually via the menu or a three button hold.

It is not uncommon for users to reset those hours once the lamp has done its time.

This may work for a time but will eventually blow the lamp strike circut.

It may also be possible to call up the total projector run time via a service menu.

This usually requres a special button combination or long press.

A I'm not a Epsom user I couldn't tell you what the secret service call is.

Somone on the intenet will know.

FYI

A new lamp from Epsom is about $120.

Sometimes OEM projector lamp supply sellers can provide the same lamp for less a they are usually made by osram or the like.

If you can find the lamp model in the manual then a search for that can give you a price.

Good luck. I wouldnt expect the sale of the projector to cover the estate's bill from the lawyer so don't get to invested in it.
