Wondering if anyone has a Sony TV KD-49X7000D TV and a Harmony controller.

I have used Logitech remotes for many years and am conversant with their programming but have run into an annoying problem. I updated to a Harmony Companion hub based remote about a year ago and it was working fine with the TV till we changed house a month ago. Nothing was changed except location!

The problem now is with the power on. It will work for a while then it won't turn on the TV. The LED shows a response but no action. Then, when eventually getting a start it will often do a reboot with the spinning rings.

But the most frustrating thing is that using the Android Harmony app, I can't get my experimental power changes to stick. It was set to using two buttons power so I tried changing to one button a la the Sony remote. That took many attempts but it eventually 'took'. I also added a learned command to the hub with the Sony remote power button and set this as the power on command.

Now sometimes it gets out of sync and instead of sending an on it sends an off. (Strangely, the Sony remote pwr button always turns the TV on or off correctly even if I try to get it out of sequence).

Sorry for the long post but I was wondering if anyone uses the Harmony with my TV, what power settings they have and if anyone knows why I can't get changes to stick.

if it was working fine 'til you moved houses then I suspect you're up against a physical issue rather than software. How good is the line of sight from where the hub is to the TV - and are you using the included IR blasters or just using the IR emitter on the hub itself. I've had a lesser version of what you've seen where the hub would stop sending commands to the tv when the sun was getting low and blasting in the the windows of our lounger - too much stray IR for the signal to overcome.

I'm guessing your Sony is an Android version.

Have you updated the latest Android version? Something may be amiss there? Are you trying to control it via IR or are you using the IP control functionality of the Sony's? They are probably the easiest TV on the market to control over IP, so that could be an option if IR is giving you issues...

Thanks, guys, for your responses. Sorry I am a couple of days late replying.

The new place is a brighter with more glass but the old place had sun problems as well. I have just plugged in the IR mini blaster and pointed it at the TV. Can't test till tomorrow. However, the problem only occurs at turn on, never with any later commands. Still, well worth a try.

Yes, this TV is Android and is up to date with 8.0.0. Not IP managed, IR from Harmony hub.

This TV was bought in Jan 2017 and this model had power problems starting up, often needing to reboot instead of coming out of sleep mode. However, this power problem was fixed by an update ages ago.

My attempts to change settings are snookered as my setting changes don't 'take'. This is really frustrating as I trust Logitech but just can't see what I am doing wrong. I need to try delays and other power setting experiments so feel pretty hacked off when nothing changes.

Thanks, again, especially as googling hasn't helped for this.

I’d go back to using the descrete on/off codes - they work and get around any problems with repeated commands (not being able to sync state due to a missed code etc). I use the discrete on/off with my 900f and it’s reliable. Would also mean you can use a ‘turn on’ sequence that sends discrete on/delay 1 sec/discrete on to try and ensure the tv ‘sees’ the command (I wonder if it’s having issues with the very first command it gets when it’s in sleep)

Since all the hub based remotes are cloud based, there shouldn’t be any problems syncing changes made in the app/desktop editor

Also make sure you don’t have CEC enabled between you receiver/bluray/tv - as that too can be a cause of problems (receiver sees the ‘on’ command and also tells the tv to turn on via HDMI cec, you then send the tv the ‘on/off’ code to the tv and it promptly turns itself back off)

I’d test the tv first of all in the ‘device’ mode and make sure the on and off codes are working - then and only then go to activities mode and start debugging your activity start sequences

Thanks for reply bignose. No CEC.

Definitely agree with using discreet on/off codes and was trying to change to them without luck. But, I now realise my main problem with getting changes to 'stick' was I was not too au fait with the syncing menu/process. In my defence, changes made were overwritten straight after exiting the device power changes before I could get to syncing.

I have now installed the appropriate My Harmony progarm on my PC and this works at changing/syncing so now have pwr on and off commands synced in.

Still not sure it is reliable yet but will know later today. If it craps out again you may hear me scream😒.

I can now remove my old V7 Logitech prog!!

@Dunnersfella I have also now found the IR option you mentioned. I did try applying it by connecting the hub with a USB cable but the PC couldn't see the hub. Is the Logitech cable different from a pwr USB cable? I really have no idea where the cable that came with the hub is now!
