A few months ago I moved from my trusty Mediaportal to Emby for our nightly entertainment needs. This included watching recorded Freeview using the DVR functionality in Emby Premiere via an HD Homerun tuner. It has worked very well and we have watched dozens of programs on it without a problem..... until the RWC started?!?!

About an hour into the recording of the first AB game, I started getting quite bad pixelation and glitching. At the time I wondered whether this was a playback issue but subsequent investigation has found it is in the recorded file. The glitching would last for 30-60 seconds then go away and be happy again for 5-10 minutes and then glitch again. I have had the same sort of issue with every game since, including those where I didn't watch it till the next day when it had finished recording. In between I have had other programs recorded quite happily without any issues.

After the first game, I started also recording the games on Mediaportal (using a separate HD Homerun) and the recordings from that were perfect. Both HD Homeruns are fed the same signal off a passive splitter so I don't think it is signal related.

I am guessing that the length of the recording may be part of the issue as I don't really ever record movies off TV so most recordings are only half an hour to an hour in length, whereas these games are 2-3 hours. The glitching also doesn't seem to appear until well into the recording either.

I am running Emby Server 4.2.1.0 on a modern Core i5 with 8GB RAM and an SSD to record to. The playback is generally through the Android TV app on my smart TV but, as commented above, the glitches are in the recorded file when played back using VLC from a desktop as well. At that time of night there were no other recordings going on so no conflict with tuners or recording disk that I can think of.

Are there any other Emby DVR users out there in Geekzone-Land who are using the DVR functionality? If so, has any one else experienced something similar?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. :-)

Cheers

A while ago I started getting glitchy recordings off one of my HD Homeruns, so I replaced it. Same thing happened with the replacement. Turns out it was the power supply. With the new device I used the old power supply. Switched to the new power supply and the problem went away.

Thanks @andgor

Hadn't thought about that possibility. Might try swapping the power supply on the two HD Homeruns and see if the problem moves.

If not then I'll just blame Spark Sport as suggested above! :-)

They sure do. On the radio yesterday I heard someone blaming Spark Sport for their poor coverage of Bathurst!

OK...

So I replaced the power supply on the HD Homerun attached to the Emby Server and no change.

I then swapped which HD Homerun the Emby Server and Mediaportal were attached to (as I had two HD Homeruns) and the problem stayed with Emby. Mediaportal continued to work perfectly using the HD Homerun that had been glitching with Emby and Emby continued glitching on the other HD Homerun that had been working fine.

Suggests that the problem is related to my Emby installation (or the Emby DVR functionality) but there don't seem to be that many configuration options and it does work... up to a point. Any other Emby DVR users out there? If not I guess I'll have to head across to the Emby support site and explain NZ Freeview to them! :-)

Cheers
