I'm thinking about putting in some AWG 13~ audio cables to/from wall plates in the house running under the floor.
The wall plates will be terminated just above the skirting board.
Is there building/wiring standard that need to be adhered to and/or approved cabling for this purpose?
I read the following on the net, but it's not NZ specific:
In most locales, a homeowner is allowed to install his own low-voltage wiring.I've installed CAT6 from one end of the house to the other terminated on RJ45 CAT5e patch panels without thinking about building standards. Years of off and on CAT/Coaxial cable installing in offices gave me an awareness of standards, but not in NZ.
However, check with your local building inspector to be sure.
Most states don't allow anyone who is not licensed to do wiring for money.
Nor will they let you work on a building considered to be "commercial."
Unfortunately, most jurisdictions define a duplex as "commercial".
If you are building a duplex, you may be able to do the work yourself if you find a licensed electrician willing to supervise your work.
The above may all seem a bit naive, but I thought I should ask the question as audio cabling is not my thing.
Found this Crutchfield Advisor pdf quite informative.
