Hi all!

Can you please enlighten me if the HVR-3000 is dual tuner or single? Can I watch DVB-S and record analogue at the same time (or the other way around)?. HVR-2200 is described as "dual", same as my Nova-T 500 HD, which means two independent tuners. What's the story with HVR-3000? It does not say "dual" on this one...

I want to add DVB-S and Analogue to my system. I will not replace the Nova-T 500 I have, as it is a dual tuner and very often I watch one show and record another one (or two).

No it is not. The HVR3000 is a single tuner hybrid, which means it can do either DVB-T, DVB-S or analogue. Unfortunatly there isn't a card for DVB-S and analogue at the same time, that would involve 2 seperate cards.

Out of curiousity what will you be using DVB-S for (that you are not already getting from DVB-T)?

Are you planning on trying to decode sky directly into you HTPC?

Just be aware that analogue with the HVR3000/HVR4000 isn't the best as the cards don't have an onboard MPEG2 encoder.

Last I heard support for analogue support on these two cards under Media Portal was still in development, I'm sure one of the MP experts will be able to confirm the status of this.

Quidam,

I am not trying to get sky into htpc, I know it cannot be done (in NZ!).

There are two satellites with FTA channels, not only one. One is the satelite for NZ freeview + Sky, the second one I refer to, is not of interes for many people, as it carries "ethnic channels" (arabs, dutch, hungarian, romanian, russian, etc.). I have a dual LNB setup getting both of them (with one 65cm dish) on an FTA decoder.

Even the sat carrying Freeview NZ has several other channels on satellite which are not available on DVB-T: CUE, Stratos, and I believe another one or two... But mainly, am after the russian and romanian channels on Optus B3.

Analogue would be as everyone else, for Prime.
Are they going to go digital soon? on DVB-S or DVB-T ?
Any plans or rumors for that?

As well as other satellites and extra programs on freeview, DVB-S allows you to download the 8-day EPG without being connected to the internet.

Interesting.  Since I have Sky could I install a splitter and run 1 connection into my HTPC?  I've already got DVB-T via a Nova T 500 and Prime via Analog on a MCE150 -but also have a HVR 4000 which I'm currently not using.  (ps. I'm using Mediaportal)

Yes.

It's what I do. I have the dish cable split three ways to Sky, a freeview STB and the HVR-3000.  I use DVB-T mainly (HVR-220 and HVR-3000) and DVB-S is pretty much only for the EPG in MediaPortal.  It is all configurable by grouping channels and prioritising tuners in MediaPortal.
