Hi guys

I am looking for a bit of advice as my current 4K LED TV is starting to show signs of being near the end of its life and I am looking into getting a 55” OLED as it’s replacement. Harvey Norman have a TH-55GZ1000U listed at $2799 after cash back which seems like a good price however I have also seen some of the 55” Sonys going for similar prices when they go on special. Does anyone have any feedback as to if the Panasonic is a good buy or should I be spending a little more to go with something else?

Panasonic's 2019 OLED TV's are getting great reviews, and at the Harvey Norman price the 55" is a great buy. Sony's don't seem to be getting the love that they were last year. Panasonic and LG are the models that are sought after.

The GZ950 (not available in NZ), GZ1000 and GZ1500 are identical as far as picture quality goes. The GZ950 and GZ1000 just have different stands, and the GZ1500, better audio. Then there is Panasonic's flagship model, the GZ2000, which is reportedly a step up from the others, but unless you are interested in the Bowers and Wilkins Dolby Atmos audio that comes with it, any one of the other models will suffice.

I am looking to get the GZ1000 65" OLED. Possibly on Black Friday, or I might wait until Boxing Day sales

Do you think a TV like this is likely to be much cheaper on Black Friday?

Hard to say without my crystal ball, but this price is the cheapest that I have seen the 55" model to date. Just hoping that the 65" model drops below $4000 😔

@Movieman - do you mean like how Newbolds was selling it for $3799 for two days this week?!

It's hopefully a good sign of things to come...

3799 is a great price, but can it go lower?

Looking for a ‘low-end OLED’ sounds a bit like looking for a low-end Rolls Royce.

I would say the OLED market has probably reached its initial saturation point where those that could afford it went for the better quality that OLED offers. Now the manufacturers are competing on price and ‘features’ to try and get more price driven customers to purchase.

Just don’t ever buy an “ex-demo” OLED whatever the price.

I read the comment to mean “tired of this and want something better” :-)

Not “about to fail”.

It’s a Samsung UA50JU6400 that I have had for a few years and around 6 months ago I had a couple of lines of dead pixels going vertically on the left hand side of the screen.

The Panasonic GZ1000 is a great TV, as has been covered before. $2799 is a pretty good price for that TV at 55", I would go for the Panny over the Sony a8g even if they were price equals.

The cashback promotion runs until 24/12, so I am hoping that come Friday the retailers don't play funny buggers by using it to disguise the normal price and it will stack nicely with some normal BF discounts. I would at least wait until then to pull the trigger.

It's $400 cashback for the 65", so it's $3899 right now effectively.

Yeah, going to wait until BF, and see what prices are then. Plus I can also use my haggling skills. Boxing Day is only a month away, so may have to wait for that if I have to.

Just received a Black Friday flyer from Noel Leeming, advertising Panasonic 65” 4K Pro HDR OLED for $3598. No model number though, so it could be the FZ950 from last year. 150 only nationwide. Let’s hope it’s the GZ1000.

EDIT: Just had a look on the NL website, and the FZ950 is described as 4K Pro, but not the GZ1000 ☹️

Yeah, I saw that as well. If you search their website with the stock number in the flyer, the fz950 comes up. Still a good TV for the price if you aren't fussed about the lack of DV support and last year's processor.

Hey Movieman,

The 65GZ1000 will be $4199 with a $400 cashback ($3799)  from Panasonic. The 65FZ950 is indeed the $3598 price.

If you decide on wanting one I can source it for you first thing just send me a PM
