Well, I was partially right; SVS has announced their replacement for the now old 2000 series subwoofers with the new 2000 Pro series. This includes the PB, PC, and SB ranges.

It looks like they have... ported... a few tricks from the 3000 series, such as the pluggable ports and app-controlled "intelligent" amp.

Specs look interesting: 550w RMS, 1500+w peak, extension down to 16hz on ported models. Will be interesting to see how they measure. And they swapped out the "industrial" steel grille for a fabric one.

I asked a dealer about price, but all they had to say was a bit of a hike over the old one, for what ever that is worth. I must admit I like the symmetrical look of the new one a lot more than the old one.

Thanks for the post.

I'm redoing my entire home theatre from scratch and haven't yet settled on a sub. I was recommended the SB2000 but then the Kef KF92 has also caught my attention. Unsure on the whole ported vs sealed thing too, ported seems to go lower. Room is only 4.4m x 4, so not a whole heap of space to fill.

Will have to keep an eye out for reviews

For home theater, definitely ported. Output in the <30hz range is going to be much higher than a sealed sub.

And the PB-2000 Pro has variable port tuning anyway, so if you want a 50/50 HT/music setup, you can use port plugs and a different response curve to sacrifice a bit of extension for faster response.

Whoops, forgot to link the full series

Its frustrating, there seems to be so much conflict on various forums about whats best, but, in poor ol NZ, we just don't get the range that is available elsewhere.

I've gone (in opinion only at this stage) from a single SB2000, to dual PB1000s to a single PB2000pro or maybe a SB3000. the 3000 is stretching the budget somewhat (and it has already been stretched going from Epson 9400 to Sony 270es projector). AVS forum seems awash with glowing praise for both HSU subs and Monolith, both of which seemingly offer better performance for cheaper money, but neither is available in NZ (HSU does have 240v power capacity, but shipping is prohibitively expensive), so SVS is about as good as it is likely to get.

My room is only 4.4x4, so not the largest space to fill, but I have gone for smaller speakers around the room so the sub will be doing all the heavy lifting for bass. It is dedicated for HT, there is virtually nill requirement for music.

Went into a store this week and saw the current SB2000, I really like the size of it, extremely small form factor for what is a 12 inch sub. They didn't have any of the PBs there and the SB wasn't hooked up and I didn't have the time for them to do a demo justice. The SB2000 pro is rated down to 19hz +/- 3db, the PB to 16, either seem pretty insanely low.

Rapollo don't have pricing or details on this yet, but supposedly they are due this month. Will be interesting to see what the pricing is like compared to the outgoing models.

Yeah, that was what I quickly found once I started researching subs. Every time someone popped the question on r/hometheaters or AVSForums, it was always "SVS is good, but HSU or Rythmik beat them on price/performance". Which is useless here. I have heard some stories about Monoprice's lousy customer service/support though.

For HT in NZ, it really is only SVS below a certain price-point. Nothing else has the bass extension for the price, until you start going towards the mid-high end. I have heard that the Pro models will come in at a bit of a premium, so I am guessing $2k+. I would also recommend sticking to ported models if you want the deeper bass extension for HT.

I just picked up a PB12-NSD, and honestly would have gone for two at that price point ($1300 each) if I had a dedicated room, rather than my lounge. 90% of the PB-2000 for about $500 less (when they were still available). And only $100 more than the PB-1000. If they are still doing them, I would highly recommend looking into it. Right now the room is the limiting factor rather than my sub.

Although the next time I think about an upgrade, it will only be to go to something most likely like this. Even DIY is frickin' expensive here, but still cheaper than the equivalent performing COTS product, so unless they start having mad sales...

@ShinyChrome: How are you finding the PB12-NSD? I'd not seen this model before - did you buy it from Sound Hub? (I see Rapallo are doing it at $1300.) Seems like it's a very similar size to the PB2000, which is not exactly insubstantial.

But, wow, prices on SVS subs have really shifted north: here's the invoice for my PB2000 from 2014:

Yarr, soundhub. Managed to work a deal with that and some of the soundpath isolation feet as well. It's a special run SVS has done for the past few years every Black Friday, but I guess the NZ supplier can get them year round?

It's good, though haven't had much of a chance to stretch it's legs yet. Gain is set at 12 o clock and it feels effortless for everything. As above though, I am definitely limited by my room size and subpar positioning now. I need to move everything to a dedicated, smaller room, much like it sounds like you have.

One thing i have noticed is the mid bass has suffered for music, but I guess that is just down to how flat it is tuned vs my old sealed Emotiva sub.

Man, if I could have gotten those prices on a PB-2000, i would definitely have gotten a couple! I'm guessing you wish you had as well haha.

I will be interested to see how the old PB-2000 compares to the Pro with it's adjustable tuning. And what sort of volume it digs down to 16hz with.

As the NZ dollar was close to 30% higher (87c) vs the USD back in 2014... (compared to 66c today) it's not surprising that the price of the subs has gone north. SMCG's haven't exactly become cheaper to make either, so it's not overly surprising.

My SVS gear is also an investment now. I also wish I had purchased a couple of PB2000 back in 2014 and pair of Ultra Bookshelf’s..

@billgates Damn, and plus the discount means you essentially got the PB-2000 for free. How are you finding your Ultra setup after a few years?

@dunnersfella SMCG = slow moving consumer goods? That and I can't imagine the big cheeto has helped much with his trade wars with China. I guess also they have moved from being a small internet direct company to the mainstream global space as well

@Shinychrome The Ultra's sound amazing. I power them with Anthem MRX-720 and the sound is loud and clear. I will look for another likely used PB-2000 end of the year to complete my setup. The woofers in the Ultra towers alone are really good that most people might not even need dedicated subwoofer/s unless you need the frequency to hit really low.

After discussing with Deano @ Rapollo, he indicated that the pricing on the pro is likely to be circa $25-2600 for the PB (assume about $23-2400 for SB), he did me a deal on x2 PB12-nsd's which I took him up on. Should be excellent for my new room. I just need a small cabinet now for the front to house the amp (Integra 5.3), Blu-ray player and apple TV and put the centre channel on. I'll try and get one the same height as the PBs so that it all just blends across the front sound stage.

Have gone with Kef Q350 bookshelf speakers on stands for front L/R and Kef Q650 centre. The two SVS subs should blend well with the front, providing all the leg work below 80hz easily. As its 99% for movies, I ended up deciding floor standers for the mains was not worth sacrificing space for.

$2500-2600!?!?! Geeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzus... maybe I am just being a miser, but do they actually want people to buy these things?

It went up by $100 USD in the states and people were lighting their pitchforks. I get that there was a $2k NZD gap between the old PB-2000 and the PB3000, so they are closing that gap now and putting distance between it and the PB-1000. And it comes with some cool new features, which all add to the price. But man, an $800 odd increase? I bet the PB-2000 owners who bought before the price increases of the last couple of years will love this, they can probably sell theirs second hand now for more than they bought it.

I might just go and buy a second PB12-NSD thanks.

sen8or, wise decision and that sounds like an awesome setup! Hope you enjoy it when everything comes in, the PB12 boxes are a lot bigger than you think haha.

I thought the price difference was a bit extreme and potentially too close to the 3000. At $2k I'd likely have gone with a single PB pro but not 2.5-2.6

As for the size? Yeah, I suspect they are big, but can't be any bigger than my old Velodyne CHT15R (surly not?)

It's close: 21"x21"x18" @34kgs for the CHT-15R vs 20.9"x17.3"x22" @ 30kgs for the PB12

The PB-3000 is $3999, so I guess it is more equal now: PB-1000: $1199; PB-2000 Pro: $2600; PB-3000: $3999; PB:4000: $4999; PB16-Ultra: $5429.

But just having a quick look around, I guess there is not much competition for them honestly. *Sighs in PSA, HSU, Rythmik, Monoprice*

Its not for everyone, but at that price you could probably get a pair of Ultimax drivers out of the states, make your own ported cabs here, and add in a Behringer NX3000, UMIK-1 + REW + miniDSP. It might not be as pretty as a COTS product or have the warranty, but at that performance/price, it will mop the floor with the SVS.
