Just hooked up to MySky HDI and viewing on a new Panasonic plasma TH-42PV80AZ.

While the HD reception on TV3 is excellent, the SD picture quality on the other channels, with the exception of TV1 and 2, is not good.

I have played around with as many TV and STB setting combinations to try and get the best picture SD quality as I can think of but no matter what I try the SD quality is pretty blurry.

Has anyone out there been through the same thing and been able to get some optimum settings.

Apologies for vauge descriptions but both TV's are being used so going from memory.

Best result I have achieved so far from the TH-42PV80AZ was by setting system setup\picture settings\high definition settings to pass through and let the TV handle the processing. SD setting is set to 14:9. Will check current settings later in evening.

Thanks for the info.

On the Mysky STB I have changed HD aspect settings to 'pass through' however there is no 14:9 option on the SD settings, only 16:9 and 4:3.

I look forward to getting your plasma picture settings.

I have also heard that the best way to display SD on HDTV is to use a separate composite/component input to display SD channels.

Sorry Kiwiwolf. I was in a hurry.
When I refered to SD setting I was actually refering to 4:3 Programme Display. Not relavient with pass through as it is greyed out.

Standard Defination Settings
Aspect Ratio Control: STB

TV Type 16:9

4:3 Programme Display 14:9
Wide Screen Signalling On

Only change to the TV has been to standard picure setting which has contrast set to 65 and brightness set to 60 otherwise all else is standard.

You have probably tried these already. I suspect that what you are seeing is more influenced by the quality of the transmission rather than the TV itself.

Thanks buddy for taking the time.

I agree re. crap Sky feed probably contributing to it.

Don't know if and when Sky will add for HD channels so might be tempted to get freeview HD. At least 1,2,3 and a few less important channels will be in HD

Sounds a bit like Snake Oil to me but what the heck, it will cost nothing to try

Tried the pass through setting but it only succeeded in stretching the SD channels out to full screen. Worse than before.

After changing settings both on the MySky unit and the TV have decided that the reason I had not noticed how poor some of the SD channels are over Sky is simply because I do not usually watch them.

Hope someone is able to come up with a solution for you.

Very frustrating. I've got the tech coming in today but I think it's down to their compression.

After all a standard definition DVD works fine so it's not the telly.
