I like gear that is reliable and lasts a long time. It's usually better for the environment too.
This thread is just a bit of fun for people who have Plasmas or LCDs still going strong as their MAIN TV after 10 years +
It's not really about the TV you just bought or are about to buy.

Mines a Sony 40EX400 full HD fluro backlit LCD. Purchased from a Dick Smith store 10 years ago.
Has been faultless
3D was the hot new feature then, I wasn't interested and this model didn't have it

Mine is a Panasonic 42" Plasma, manufactured October 2010, bought at a garage sale for $120 3 years ago, including the cabinet.

Twice a blackened/coloured strip had appeared down the middle of the screen, so I pulled the back cover off and gave it a good vacuum to remove the dust and consequently the screen strip. The 2nd occurence was this past weekend.

The picture is fantastic for us. I'm more interested in being outside than watching TV, I don't believe I'd have a happier life with the latest and greatest TV so why spend the money.

We have 2 32" Sony dumb LCD TVs more than 10 years old, one our main TV (yes, I know, size matters). Magness Benrow. Extremely happy with them! May they live for ever.

I may regret posting this, I suppose.

Don't know how old my Samsung 49" is, but probably 12-14 years. It's on its last legs, it has some good permanent shadows in the display.

Not exactly a TV, but I have an 23 inch Apple Cinema display from about 2007 and still going strong. Still a great monitor compared to todays monitors being 1980 x 1200, and still looks modern. I also have another LCD monitor from about 2002, 18 inch philips and that still works fine. BOth were really expensive at the time, but made to last. Also have a Sony 32 inch TV that must be from 2008 which I got when freeview HD came out. 1080 displays as well, whereas many 32 inch tvs these days tend to be 720 so are not full hd. I have only had two LCDs fail and they were both Dell ultrasharps

Bought a Samsung 40" in 2006 that is still going strong (gave it to a family member when we moved from Norway). Was not a cheap TV at the time it was purchased.

Have a Samsung UA55F8000 55" that was bought in 2013 and still have no reason to get rid of it, other than wanting a bigger TV and OLED.

So my experience so far has been that if you don't buy the really cheap stuff, these things last a long time.

I know someone who purchased that size and brand back in 2006 ,and it lasted about 5 years before it failed. Not a terrible life, but it also had problems with audio and crackling. They should have take it back, but they were elderly and didn't want to be bothered.

I use a 32" Sony Bravia KDL-32V500 still. It was installed 11/12/2009 and is still just fine. I have it attached to my main MythTV box and occasionally to my laptop. I have never used its speakers - the audio goes via SPDIF to my HiFi system. Interestingly, the remote still has its original 2xAA Sony brand (made in Indonesia) batteries in it. I have never had to change them, although I do have to open the cover and rotate them every so often when the remote stops working.

Samsung 46” LA46A650D. Bought Dec 2008. Was was one of the first with a dvb-t tuner that wasn’t $5k.

Looks out of style with all the new bezel less ones. But is still fine. Thankfully no smarts to worry about.

Panasonic TH-P50G10Z plasma 50".
July 2009 manufacture date. Bought around November that year from jb HiFi.
Price sticker on the box was about $4500 - bought it for around $3200 as I recall. There seemed to be fierce price competition back then.
Still got a great picture.
It failed about 4 years ago. Powered it on and it shut straight down after about 3 seconds. The red led on the front was flashing an error code that pointed to the cooling fans. After a bit of helpful youtube/Google I decided to take the back off it and found the 2 fans very caked with dust. Probably took me 30minutes to clean then and put it back together.
Still got a great picture.

My ST50 is only 7-8 years old (I think) but I reckon it will easily make it past 10. It's showing zero signs of age other than the plastic trim around the front edges coming loose (Was easy to glue back on)

Panasonic PV8 42 inch TV bought in 2008 and used pretty much daily as the main TV until we shifted house in Dec 19 and have since sold it in Jan this year. Being the PV8, it was 1024x768 so only HD Ready, but still gave a good picture for news and TV show viewing.

Thankfully my Samsung 63" Plasma from 2010 is still going. Strong though? Almost. I've noticed if the screen is almost entirely white, I'll get some pink static in the middle of the screen. After such googling, it looks like something I could repair myself.

No image burn in at all though, and I do play a lot of games on it.
