I've just got a Vodafone TV and wanting to know how people have got on with connecting it to their home theatre systems as it only has HDMI for sound.

My home theatre amp does not have HDMI connections and I've been working around this issue for a while. I've used optical out on Apple TV (gen 3), MySky and Xbox to get my surround sound.

It would seem I am going to have to upgrade my receiver.

How old is your TV? Some TVs will pass through audio from HDMI inputs to optical out. Not all will, but some will.

The cheap solution to this is an HDMI audio extractor: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33050616116.html

The expensive option is to upgrade your receiver.

I haven’t seen this, I will try this if previous suggestion for TV pass through doesn’t work.

Have been playing around with this on a quiet Sunday morning. This works but only getting a dolby prologic II signal but watching Top Gun on catchup.
