LV Martin opened with a big flash a flagship store in the BNZ Centre about a year or so ago. Always worth a look though their selection of high end gear I felt was a bit lacking.  And having the Sony Store at street level probably didn't help them.

Well a few weeks ago, they announced lease had expired (never sure what that really means - lease expired and they don't want to renew or business is not doing well) and had a great closing down sale. Alas I missed out on the really good stuff.

Anyway now the empty and quite large premises, have signs saying JB Hifi is coming and they are looking for staff.  I don't have much experienec with this store apart from a quick walk through their Queen Street store but they appear to be more computer, music, video and HiFi with no home appliances.  I wonder how well they will do?

JB Hifi are doing excentionally well. It'll certainly be a big coup for them getting such a high profile location in the city.

In Australia they are dominating the market and are doing very well in Auckland as well, and in part are probably part of the reason Real Groovy has gone belly up. JB Hifi certainly are proof that music can still be sold and that stores who blame "illegal downloads" for killing their bricks & mortar stores are wrong.

Good prices on CDs without the crap displays that they have at the ware-whare that make it a pain in the @$$ to find anything since they pack them in so tight etc...

I have bought a few albums since going to JB, havent done that in the past since I was introduced to the world of "CD-R" in about 96 or so.

Not so sure about the location, I had heard that LV's had closed down mainly due to the lack of foot traffic/customers. I guess we will have to wait and see how JB get on after the novelty of a new retailers wears off.

I think that was all wrong as a location for an appliance store. People don't go to CBD's to by home appliances.

It fits in with JB HiFi's strategy though.

that's a good point. I would wander in LV Martin and usually just look at the TV's etc. Possibly a small appliance but not with the idea of purchasing a major appliance. Foot traffic should have been good with the food court there etc.  But it was hardly an impulse purchase place.  JB HiFi will be interesting though

[edit] walked past the stores again today. They appear to not only be taking over LV Martin's space but a space across from it so quite a large retail outlet. And since there will be no washing machines and driers there, it's going to be a an interesting place to browse at lunch times!
