Sorry for the basic question. Due to the limited options here, and price difference compared to the states, I was just wondering if it would be possible to buy a projector screen (looking at elite screens) from the states and use it here.

Would the power supply need changing, or use a transformer?
Anyone done this before?

Thanks

You really need to supply some more details as it's impossible to tell from the info you have provided

Ah ok sorry. I just kept in general because of the US using 110v instead of 240v.

This is the screen I was looking at buying

If its like my friends screen, it has a horrid noisy AC motor in it with 2 live cables and a neutral that go to their own control box for up and down. The motor is an AC one that takes mains and one live is up and one is down. It had a swich on the up side of it to cut that wire when it hit, and nothing to stop the down travel other than the timer in the box which wasnt always that accurate with how far it opened.

It is so noisy that the noise travels thru the cieling structure and wakes their kids up. Sometimes it only comes part way down and then you press it again and it runs the full length of time and goes all the way down and starts winding up in reverse around it.

There are many terrible quality automatic screens around. He seems to have got one of the worst.

Also you could look at aliexpress for blind motors that are quieter and automatable and use one of those to hold a screen? Thats what I am planning on getting for my deployable greenscreen.

Shipping is not fun...

I've seen some fairly munted screens from carriers who don't know how to move long tubes (which is effectively how they arrive, but with cardboard around them).

If you buy from overseas, make sure... as in 100% sure that you get free freight to return the screen if it shows up with any damage whatsoever. Outside of that, the risk isn't worth it to me.

Next to that, freight is never overly cheap on them - so keep that in mind.

How much is the screen you're looking at locally compared to the import unit?

Thanks for the replies, from the youtube videos Ive seen the elite screen doesnt appear to be too noisy. I did find out that the spectrum is faster than the VMAX (but at a cost of increased noise).

Hmm yeah it does say non returnable, will have to check t&c's for damage etc.

Cost is $657 (plus any GST once here) for the spectrum 2 B&H, the Spectrum 1 is $1350 delivered from AV Supply in NZ

@kopkiwi has bought an elite screen from B&H, I wonder how he did it (power supply etc)?
