My last question was solved through these forums and whilst I have googled my life out I haven't seen a solution for my particular MP RC3 problem.

I'm Running

E8400
ASUS 4850
Foxconn P45A
Hauppage HVR1110 hybrid
Media Portal RC3
Power DVD8
Vista Home Premium x64
HP 1600x1200 monitor +
Phillips 42" running 1360x768
Catalyst 8.10 (have tried 8.9, 8.7 still same)

All shows are fine on a very regular basis, however TV3 is frequantly jumping/stuttering I have tried all types of deinterlacing (weave, bob) as i read this helps, but no dice. Defiantely using EVR and doesn't seem to be a difference when I switch that on or off (not that I can see anyways)

Obviously this machine was not built for HTPC predominantly but I'm guessing my 4850 should decode teh f#&Kk out of anything and all components should be able to handle my HTPC needs.

Would swithching to an equivalent nVidia card solve the prob? is TV3 just one of those channels? is it location (mission bay)?

The problem is mostly TV3 whether it's HD content or not.

Your thought?...

Having just updated from RC2 to RC3 I wonder if you had the same problem I did. Which was:

I uninstalled RC2 completely and then installed RC3. When I went through the configuration for RC3 Media Portal picked up the PowerDVD codecs and had the hardware decoding enabled etc. All looked good. Infact it looked like it had picked up all my settings from RC2 (even though I'd allegedly removed everything). Fired up RC3 and when switching on TV I noticed a range of misc characters being displayed before the TV kicked in. Funny I thought, but put it down to still being a release candidate and besides the TV started and all looked fine. At least I thought it did.

After a short while I noticed some occasional stuttering. That's not right - everything was fine in RC2. Did a bit more investigation and found that my CPU was being maxed out (previously it didn't get above 20%). Checked all the settings again - yep Cyberlink codec selected, hardware decoding enabled, etc etc. Fired up Media Portal, same random characters then TV starts and is still jerky and CPU still heavily used. OK - so hardware decoding is definitely not being used, though enabled and confirmed.

I eventually got it to work by changing all the settings away from what I wanted and then back to what I wanted. I even turned of EVR saved settings, re-enabled EVR saved settings.

Once I'd been through this process upon firing up MediaPortal and watching TV no random characters appeared, stuttering had gone and CPU usage back down to sub 20%.

So, for some reason it would seem that even though MediaPortal reported that the Cyberlink codec was being used I think it was not. Or upon intialising the codec it partially crashed (the random characters) and defaulted back to another codec. I should have confirmed this with "Graphedit" (or whatever it's called) but I've not used this and was just trying to get it all working.

Anyway, turing it off and on again worked.

PowerDVD8 stores individual profiles in the registry for each application that accesses the codec. This means for example if the old app has a different title to the new one it won't use the settings. Try resetting the codec settings as suggested above.

thanks! i'll go through it again, i even got so frustrated i unistalled both Power DVD AND MP RC3 but still the same problemo.

however, if it works for others, it's something i have missed im sure
