I was tinkering with my HTPC, had just installed the TV Pack 2008, and was playing around with the satellite settings trying to get that to work, when I noticed, I had no sound anymore?

I made no changes to any audio settings as far as I know, still have the latest Realtek drivers installed (I have reinstalled them to be sure)...I can't figure it out...

Anyone else experienced this with the TV Pack?
Anyone know where I could look to resolve this?

It is frustrating to say the least, after I had this problem to start with, and only got it fixed with the help of sbiddle...now it appears I have broken it!

To get it working originally, it seemed all sbiddle had to do was update the drivers...but he did play in the settings as well...I have been in there looking and testing, but I am not having any luck.

Any help appreciated.

If you go into Sound Manager or the Realtek Audio manager and click on test do you get anything?

It seems a very strange probllem, I could pop around and have a look at it but it wouldn't be until Thursday.

No, nothing...
Click the 'Test' button on each of the different sample rates, no sound.
Encoded format is still 'Dolby Digital' as you had, and by default.

I have remembered most things you did, and where you went etc, and looked in all those places with no luck.

I have thought about doing a complete reinstall, as I would like to anyway, to properly test out that TV Pack following the instructions given of installing it after a clean install...but I have not dared as I don't know if I will be able to configure GB-PVR again...(I'm being gutless)

Is the TV Pack worth installing at this point?
It does actually work, allow satellite in Vista MC yes?
Or am I just wasting my time...

I really need to do all this on a test PC, and leave my HTPC as is until I know how to do these things and have a tried and tested setup...

Anyway...if I don't figure it put before Thursday, if ya got the spare time Steve, it would be appreciated.
I will be working nights, so start work at 9pm or later, meaning I will be gone by 8pm, so anytime before then is preferable.

Its not that bad...

I admit it is frustrating...but its a learning curve, I am messing around with stuff I have never messed around with before (Media Center/GB-PVR/MediaPortal, TV Tuners), and it was my first ever build...

That said, audio I would have thought should have just worked straight of the bat...but apparently no, not in this case.
And a HTPC, aint a HTPC, without sound!

I will get there, the more I tinker with these things, the better I will get, learning from disasters along the way.

Progress update:

I did not do a complete reinstall, did not need to (maybe because my system is still new and does not have much on it yet, pretty clean as is), I have managed to correctly install and configure TV Pack 2008.

So, I now have satellite within Vista Media Center...yay!

But still no sound.

Although, I don't think I reinstalled the drivers correctly as they are reinstalling every boot...thinking I must be in administrator mode when installing them?

So, if I can just resolve this, I then have the system setup how I want....
Next step...split my satellite so to have 2 feeds into my BGT3540, to allow watching and recording at same time.

Close, but not quite...
I had video...just no sound, so the cable was plugged in...

...just not properly.

The slightest of angles and obviously not all the HDMI connectors were touching, resulting in no sound (but still enough connectors touching for video)

Duhhhh!

Ah.... yeah HDMI plugs are susceptible to that. Pitty they did not include a locking/"click in" system in the design
