Just updated my KD-49X7000D. This update was to improve performance and I reckon it made quite a big difference to the snappiness of the menu system.
Anyone else with an opinion on this?

Just saw this pushed out last night. Caused a bit of a stir as the option to install now or delay for later buttons didn't work and it hung.
Have installed now though, all quite painless so far. Will keep a look out for any issues or performance gains.
Have liked the android os flexibility on the TV itself, and we've been running likes of freeview apps and kodi directly on the TV for several years now, without an intermediate box.
Security wise though it's miles behind the latest Android releases, which is the general downside of Android itself if you're running a specific variant that requires the manufacturer to have to go back and regression test etc on older models. Puts updates years behind, IF the manufacturer is even willing to do the hard work to review and push out an update.
Really like what Nokia have done using the Android One approach and just pushing out the stock offering to it's devices. Allows them to respond really quickly.
Yes, updating Android is a problem for the TV manufacturers. The Android One sounds like a good idea, though.
I am pretty sure my set is more responsive. Kodi was a bit sluggish with its navigation but seems quite a bit more snappy.
Update 6.7115 will be on its way soon too adding Android 9 Pie to older TVs; it’s been released across Latin America.

Thanks for the headsup, corksta. Looks like my D model is on the list.
So I upgraded and now have an issue with YouTube.
Plays about 3 seconds of sound and video, then sound stops and video pauses. If I leave it a couple of seconds then press pause and play on the TV remote I can get another 3 seconds.
PS - Prior to the update about a month ago certain Netflix shows would play just a static sound ( eg Grace and Frankie). I suspect it was anything coming down in 5.1 sound format. This suddenly started happening. Its happened a couple of times before and I was able to fix somehow. Can't remember how but may have been a factory reset.
A month ago , nothing would fix it, so I assumed it must be hardware so went out and bought an Apple TV .
I've factory reset the tv again, checked for any more system software upgrades, checked for any YouTube app upgrades, but nothing
TV is a Sony kd55X7000D and its running android 9, kernel 4.9.125
The work around is to use the Apple TV but interested if there is a fix.

All fine. Didn't expect to see any noticeable changes!
I've got a KD55X7000D and I've just upgraded to 6.7140. I've got a problem playing video in Kodi now. The video stutters along like the TV can't maintain a suitable frame rate, whereas before Kodi played videos perfectly.
TV channels are fine, Netflix is fine and it's only Kodi where I'm having the video frame rate problem. I'm running the latest Kodi (18.9) from the Play Store. I've done an uninstall and reinstall of Kodi but still have the problem.
Also, I use Matt Huisman's Kodi Addons for watching NZ ondemand TV and these all have errors now.
Can I go back to the previous Sony firmware version?
TIA.
Just tried my Kodi 18.9. It plays my mp4 files fine but won't play some old wmv's.
To add more detail to my setup:
That's interesting, especially the comment about it being a USB problem.
Great you found that post and got it sorted.
