Hi All,

I've finally got (had) my system set up and working the way that I wanted it so that I can watch anything from SKY, DVD, VCR or VHF/UHF in any room, on any of my TV's at the same time as anybody else in the house wants to watch something...

...but I was dismayed to find my DVD is outputting composite on the SCART that connects it to the SKY STB which then forwards it to my local LCD TV on the SCART output that I am using.  I normally send component to the TV, but there is a composite signal coming from the DVD and over-riding this.

My set up is:

VHF/UHF direct to LCD, DVD and one other feed.

SKY Digital from the STB to the LCD using the TV SCART output as component, to the DVD using the VCR SCART output as S-Video and RF output to a modulator.

DVD output to the LCD using HDMI, and to the modulator using composite.

VCR outputs to the DVD using composite and to one other feed.

The RF outputs from the modulator and VCR are then combined with the VHF/UHF feed from the aerial and distributed through the house.  It's great (used to be!) when the kids want to watch a DVD and the rugby is on.

The problem is that whenever I play anything from the DVD I get the HDMI feed to the local LCD TV (very good), I get the RF distributed (good), but it also loops along the SKY STB TV SCART output(bad).  I now have a PACE STB.  My old box (Motorola I think) didn't loop back.

I can't prevent the DVD from outputting on both SCART connections and can't find any info on changing the PACE configuration.  One thing that does work is to run the DVD from the TV SCART output and the TV from the VCR SCART but then I can't get component directly from the SKY box to the TV.

Would a directional SCART to SCART cable work?  Can you get them?  Is my best bet to try and sever the SCART return feeds in the cable?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi There Marty,

Seems no-one is game to have a bash at this, so I'd put my 2cents worth in.

I tried drawing out what you explained, and gave up after the second modulator bit ...

If it's looping along the SKY VCR SCART, and this cable is only plugged into the DVD S-video input ?

If I read it correctly you have an RF modulator connected to the DVD Video output, I can't see any connection that you are describing. Grr..

There is a setting in the SKY STB in the maintenance mode for the other SCART output setting, but havent used this or even sure what it does, as I dont use the VCR SCART output.

You can get or modify SCARTs to be one-way, as most Scart to Scart have all pins wired thru.

Does your TV have SCART input as well, or just the RGB connectors ? I'm not sure where your SCART to SCART goes to ...

However, I'm sure your problem is fixable. Just need a better picture ...

FI you want, sketch me a picture. If you can scan and e-mail, or fax 09 356 6098
