We have a 43" 4K Sony Android TV which is now a few years old, which the right corner seems to be getting brighter and brighter, which is particularly visible in dark scenes.

I was hoping to replace it with a OLED but the smallest available is 48" and pretty pricey. I am wondering what the next best thing is? I like Android TV, it's handy occasionally, though 90% of the time I am using a FireTV, which I really like.

I am not worried about the frame TV's as I wouldn't use the art features much if at all, and they seem pretty pricey, but I do really want a fantastic picture, and it would be good if the sound was decent as well.

I am presuming there isn't much point in waiting on what's next given the predicted shortages that are likely to continue through till next year, meaning not too many super deals going later in the year etc anyways?

Cheers

120Hz would be something I think I would value, for connecting up a game console to occasionally. I guess that really only gives me the Sony X85J and the Frame TV by Samsung, in this size, does that sound right?

The only thing I can add is check those two devices support AV1. If it's an A-TV 2021 I believe it will.

FireStick TV will/does anyway.

one thing to bear in mind between the two options youve come up with the sony is oled but the samsung is qled, im no expert but from the little research I did when buying a new TV oled panels are superior to samsungs qled panel

The sony 43" does fit your desired requirements quite nicely being oled, 4k, 43" and android TV

I dont recall finding any TV's in 43" that did 4k120 in my searches a few months back so you might end up having to step up to 48" to unlock that feature if you reeeally want it but $$ :)

43" and 48" side by side there is very little difference in size

If it was 43" 120hz and Oled, I would have bought it already :)

We are against going with bigger TV in the bedroom as 43" is still already pretty decent, however, so many more options at 48".

Left field suggestion, serious suggestion, not a wind up, consider not replacing it, have your bedroom as a TV-free refuge.

You’re not missing out, other rooms have TVs.

Better for your wallet and, as now blue-light free, your sleep as well.

you and me both!

I was in the same predicament not long ago looking for a TV for my sons room with the ideal size being 43" but wanted 4k120 for that smooth ps5 goodness which was only available in larger LED models.. so thats where the researched kicked off, smallest I could find at 4k120 was a 48" oled

I understand the point you are making. I'd still prefer a TV in the Bedroom. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

What did you end up with?

Whilst it's considerably above what I had originally budgeted, the LG A1 whilst missing the 120Hz, isn't THAT much bigger than the current TV and is the OLED I'd love.

LG C1 48, it really wasn't much bigger than a 43 when comparing instore

Reviewed VERY well on rtings.com

Its quite a bit more than the A1 but never know what you might be able to haggle your local store down to :)

the retail price on it at the time was a bit higher than what it is now so doesn't seem as good of a deal but I paid 2680 including delivery and setup.

Seems to have dropped in price most places in the last few months.

My biggest annoyance with it however is.... that I want another larger one for the living room! But it pained me even paying that much originally let alone going bigger

I think I'd probably have to content myself with the A1, though very limited number of places sell it or even have a display unit. 120hz display is something I'd like, but given the limited number of times I'd use it, couldn't really justify.

I wasn't aware but actually, the current TV is under 3 Years old, so it's going to be covered under warranty I'd expect (or CGA) it's going to come down to opinion as to whether the top right corner being brighter than the rest of the screen in a black scene is going to be considered a fault or acceptable issue with LED screen.

It's very annoying to me, and seems to have gotten worse recently. Most 2019 generation LED's are edge lit I'd guess, I just wonder how much bleed is acceptable. It's very distracting.
