My TV has started looking like this. At first I thought backlighting, but now I'm not so sure. The darker areas are still well illuminated, just not as bright. What would be the likely cause?

Are there any LCD repairpeople here? I am still trying to find a solution for the issue described in my previous post above. When it first happened I assumed it was the LED backlighting but I have read that it can also be the circuit board feeding the backlights. The problem fixed itself for awhile then started again. It briefly fixed itself once more but now seems to be permanently shadowed. The intermittent nature of the fault might indicate a bad connection, but banging on the TV doesn't have any effect. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

it's an obvious backlight failure, it could be one or more LED's in each band that has failed or it could be the driver, no way of telling without disassembly.

Damn. I was hoping I wouldn't have to test the LEDs. Now I suppose I will.

once you have it apart you can sometimes see a black spot on the failed LED's, a semi decent multimeter with diode test will also help a lot in figuring things out.

Next problem, once you identify the faulty LED's will be locating replacements that are exactly right, otherwise it wont be a uniform brightness

A friend who had a TV with bad backlight got a replacement set of them off aliexpress for not too much. Were some boards with the LEDs on them that just push fitted into the rear shell of the TV.

I thought it was too much to repair a 32" non full HD non smart TV, but he was OK with it. Seemed to work ok, no obvious dirtyscreen effect from them like I have seen on some repaired TVs before.

How old is the TV - any chance of a CGA claim?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
