I just got this movie this afternoon and watching it now, have to say it looks far better in HD :)

I'm not sure if this applies around NZ but The Warehouse has 20% off blu-ray discs until Monday if your wanting to get some

I would agree. The previous version I owned was a Region 1 import (from nearly 10 years ago) and the difference is like night and day. The company who mastered it for blu-ray should be very proud indeed.

Are they still forcing you to buy all 3 movies as a box set?

What are the special features like (specifically commentaries)? Reading the back of the cover it just sounds like exactly the same features as on the original dvd. In the box-set there's supposed to be extra commentaries (philosophers etc); is this available on the standalone Blu-ray?

Cheers.

Most of the special features, whether on the actual Blu-ray disc or on a second disc, for the movies I've bought so far have been the same as the original DVD.  The 2nd discs are usually just normal DVDs anyway, not Blu-rays.

'Most of...'??? I'll be more specific - what commentaries are available on the standalone Matrix Blu-ray?
'2nd discs...'??? Does the standalone Matrix Blu-ray have a 2nd disc?

I would love to watch The Matrix on Blue Ray, I have the whole trilogy on DVD and I watch it on my 50" Panasonic Full HD Plasma, It looks great even on DVD but I would love to see the difference.

Sorry, I was referring to other blu-rays that I have bought, not specifically The Matrix.  I own about 12 blu-rays now and what I said above applies to the majority of them.

Yes, is there a single movie only option out yet?  Given the others were not so well received, I can understand the box set only approach initially, but would really like the first only if poss.

Yes, you can get them individually - keen to get the first one, just wondering what the extras are like compared to the dvd.

IMO the first Matrix was far better as a standalone film, the subsequent 2 really ruined the mystique for me.  I'd prefer to buy this on Blu-ray by itself.

Totally agree - prime example of how to take a good thing and completely screw it over; why can't people just leave well enough alone! Since accountants starting making the decisions artistic integrity has gone out the window...

Saw this at the warehouse for $36.99 normal price.  Pretty good, especially if can tie in with a special at some stage.
Whole kit is probably a good deal if you do want the whole thing plus animatrix etc, but those sorts of normal prices are pretty good for a one off movie.

Glad to see bluray coming down like that in NZ.  Our dollar is rough at the mo, even with Amazon deals etc, so good to see new releases like Dark Knight available normal price under $40 at the Warehouse.  Can only get better too over time.
